Anyone here agree that the SAGEBRUSH CANTINA is the Best Mexican Food ?

Question:

What is the best thing to get at Xochi's ?
And is it a Large Portion ?

I am going down to mexican town just for this before Labor Day, I need to go for my own opinion, All though I have been told dont bother it's not worth it when there is Sagebrush so much closer.

lol, u and your "large portions" :icon_mrgr

Best thing to get at Xochi's is a fresh basket of chips, couple cups of hot salsa, and a carafe of margaritas with salt rimmed glasses. Whatever you select for an entree is up to you. I've been going there for ~20+ years and I've never been disappointed with a meal and I've never left there hungry.

Sagebrush is definitely very good, one of the best for sure. I still love Mexican Village too. There is a place in Pontiac called Trini & Carmens that I never knew of and tried recently and that was also very good. I love Mexican food! Yum!
Another favorite of mine when im in the neighborhood

I may have to try this place. There are lots of good mexican places in Waterford but none has stood out to me yet. Time to try another.

lupitas in mexican village blows all the other americanized mexican food out of the water... I prefer the real deal... you wanna know where the best food in town is ? look where the locals eat...

WELL ....I tell you this.
My Father inlaw Lives in San Diego right now, and when he comes to Detroit area to visit us, he DEMANDS a Visit or 2 to the SAGEBRUSH and He said many times it was his favorite in Michigan and Rivals the places in South Cal and Mexico.............he owns a Home in Mexico also, he has lived out there since 1977

My dad invented Mexico, Mexican food, and the avocado. He says Xochi's is the best food that he didn't invent.

+1

Also, going there for lunch is great deal. $3.50 for 2 tacos/burritos/enchiladas/quesadillas, rice, beans chips+ salsa. Hard to beat.

And, if you're still hungry (doubtful), the Mexican bakery a couple stores down has awesome churros.

:roll:I didn't know your hand worked there!!

It is pretty much authentic Mexican food, just look inside the kitchen and see whos preparing your meal. I would reccomend going, excellent food, and always packed.

Dos Pesos in Belleville has the best mexican food. If you dont agree please send me the bill for your dinner entree and I personally will refund your money.

At the suggestion of many in this thread, I went to Sagebrush last night. I was NOT impressed.

Guacamole - What they served was some crushed up avacado with a little garlic. Didn't have cilantro (which is a sin in my mexican food handbook), sour cream, salt, pepper, or tomatoes. And there are some more ingredients I am sure they left out that I can't think of. They have no right to call it guac. At least they used fresh avacados. No excuse for not finishing the dip though.

Salsa - OK, but nothing to write home about. It didn't taste store bought, though, which is a plus in my book. Place called Jalapeno's in Pontiac has ten times better and they give you three kinds. Xochi's gives you two.

Dinner - Got a combo plate with chicken burrito, chicken enchilada, and a stuffed pepper. The pepper was bland - missing the kick I would have hoped for. The only difference between the burritto and enchilada was the burrito had a flour tortilla and the enchilada had a corn. Both were stuffed with ONLY anemicly spiced shredded chicken. On top of that, both were massively dry. Luckily, wife got the fajitas, which were meal enough for two. Fajitas were good, but nothing special. On par with Friday's and the other chains that serve them.

Fish and Chips - Yea, first Mexican place I have ever been to with that on the menu! Along with Chicken fingers, multiple garden saldas, BBQ ribs, BLT sandwich, burgers, etc. It looked to me like the menu was having an identity crisis.

So yea, it was a nice building with a nice atmosphere, but next time I go there I am getting Fish and Chips. I wouldn't recommend it as a Mexican food destination.

I'm a fan of that place. not going to claim it's the best but it's good food in a casual atmosphere.

If you want Fajitas, I'm going to claim Juan's Hacienda to be the best place to go for Fajitas although i'm not going to argue with anyone that claims otherwise. They have great Fajitas, if you get the cheese they light it on fire. And they give you a ton of fajita for cheap. I take home a week's worth of Fajitas every time I go there. The Fajitas for one are plenty for two people. The fajitas for two are plenty for a family.
