Yes, the MacBook is eligible for the promotions as well. However, the student discount is only $50 off the normal price, compared to $100 off for the Pro.

Why get the Pro? I think it is worth the extra $150 easily. Thinner, lighter, looks a lot better. The aluminum feels 10x better than the plastic. It also has a SD card slot and FireWire 800 port. Another addition over the MB is the very nice battery gauge on the side; there are 8 green LEDs and you can push the button to see your charge without ever opening the laptop or turning it on. And probably the second most important benefit (the aluminum being first) would be the extra 2GB of DDR3 RAM. Oh, I almost forgot, the Pro also has a very nice backlit keyboard which integrates with the ambient light sensor.

I have a netbook so the portability and battery life aren't a high priority but it would be an upgrade since it'll have an optical drive, larger screen, and better graphics.

I don't have room for a desktop. I would totally go that route if I could. That's why I'm looking at the Sager for something of a desktop replacement in gaming.

I have the cash for both, but that would be the worst decision ever since I'm trying to save it :lol:

HD's are the same size. .1" and .1 lb

IMO the 13" 'Pro' should come with an i5 and better graphics card.
 
i was going to go ahead and get the white book because i already have an imac, but i just can't help myself. so i decided to go with the MBP.

on the applestore website, comparing the price of a white book upgraded to 4gb of ram, and the base MBP, the MBP is only $50 more. my dad has the last gen MBP with 2gb of ram, and i feel it needs more than that. plus, when thinking long term, that 2gb wont be much in due time. next year this time all notebooks will be coming with 6, 8gb of ram. (eventually). i don't want a really slow machine in just a couple short years. it's something i'm planning on having for a long time.

I meant space on the HDD, but now that I look again both are standard with the 250GB so there's no difference in that as I first thought.

I think every model should have better graphics than what they offer...

The 13" MBP has a integrated card with no dedicated memory specifically made for them. That's a big bummer. A card with 512MB dedicated would be freaking awesome but also probably wouldn't fit.

.13" less in height
.22" less in width
.18" less in depth
.20 lbs less in weight

And that's in addition to all the other features I listed that the Pro has over the MB. It is easily worth the extra money.

The 13" MBP is perfect if you want netbook portability and battery life but with full laptop performance and an optical drive. Comparable laptops to the MBP don't have i5's and powerful graphics at this price unless they sacrifice an optical drive or other features perhaps. The GT 320M is considerably faster than the previous 9400M. Also, what laptop packs as much power as the MBP does with 10 hour battery life (without using a protruding battery)?

Also, why would you pay $799 for the old MB? Even the new one is a better deal than that because you get a $200 iPod Touch in addition to the vastly improved hardware. Would you honestly spend your money on a vastly inferior product just to save maybe $100 if that?
 
Oh screw it, I'm not getting a MBP now. I just saw this:
While Nvidia's mum on the release date of this card, they've apparently partnered with Clevo to build the first notebook systems featuring the GeForce GTX 480M.

I will stick with my eeepc for everyday use and wait until that comes out.

I saw they had that on the Sager website as well.

Although I haven't read reviews on it, is the 480M really anything special? On the desktop side the ATI 5000's are definitely the better buy.
 
They kinda screwed everyone with the new updates. Nothing impressive except the battery life.

The Air and the Mac Pro need an update bad!

WWDC is coming up, maybe there will be some minor updates.

I don't get it. You didn't respond to my replies and now you are talking about the Air and Mac Pro. Are you actually looking to buy any of those products or what? :crap:

How did they screw anyone with the updates? Nothing impressive except the battery life? They managed to increase the battery life while doubling the graphics power. More powerful CPU's (Core i5/i7's introduced). Automatic graphics switching between the integrated and discrete graphics. Inertial scrolling has been added to the multi-touch trackpad.

Some people are upset that there isn't a Core i5 in the 13", but look at the HP Envy 13" which has a slower C2D processor, lacks an optical drive, and costs more money.

Good point, and for people about to make a purchase I would wait until WWDC its RIGHT around the corner and the back to school promotion will still be going on. I have 13" MBP, iMac 27" and love em both, I plan to get the wife an iPod down the road.
 
why wait? the MBP line was just revamped in april, the white book this month. they are only supposed to announce the new phone and a new OS for 3gs users....right? what did you hear? i have been keeping up on this stuff as much as i can lately. lol.

My Macbook Pro keyboard went a little nuts a couple months ago and the delete key, space bar and arrow keys weren't working. I had to go out of town for an event and couldn't be without it, so when Somerset told me it would be at least a week, I decided I couldn't risk it.

I took it back last week, and even though it was 52 days out of warranty, they replaced the entire top half of the aluminum body. Not only do I have a fully functioning keyboard now, but my shnazzy aluminum case is brand new too. Ordered an iPad while I was up there.
 
If any of you bought the MC and have the Ipod and want to sell it, let me know. My sister is looking for a Ipod Touch for her husband for their anniversary. Thanks.
