Anyone have an Ikea kitchen?

My wife and I are looking to remodel our kitchen and from everything i've read online and seen in person is that the ikea cabinets are actually pretty good for the money. We would be doing all the work ourselves. I just wanted to hear some other opinions. Price is definitely a factor for us.

yep, did mine myself, super easy install and have not had ANY problems. Put mine in 4 years ago and I have 4 kids. My cabinet quotes were from 7500-9500. I got everything from there for $1800

That's a good savings. I always wondered how their stuff would be quality wise.

I heard it's all in how you assemble it. I took my first hike through IKEA last week. The crowd sucked. :) Savings can be applied towards shipping if you don't want to haul it yourself.

We have a few Ikea items, the coffee table chips VERY easily. We planned on it being temporary and cheap due to the kids. We have an Ikea toybox that is very well built. Seems to be hit or miss.

With the cabinets, I'd look at them close and see how easily the edges of the formica would chip.

I walked through all their displays and I really likes some of the styles, my concern was durability but they probably are on par with an off the shelf at lowes or home depot.

We redid our entire kitchen with Ikea cabinets about three years ago. The quality is good, especially for the price. The hardware they use is top notch as well. I'd highly recommend them.
Just make sure you double check every piece for the correct item # when you pick it all up. The warehouse guys there tend to screw that up a lot. Hell, the people entering the #s into the system when you biuy it can screw it up too. Always double-check.

my uncle did his kitchen with it, and it looks bad ass. I'll see if my cousin has any pictures of it....he liked the ikea stuff because a lot of it is centered on space management, and his kitchen is very small, and he was able to really open it up

As long as it isn't the modern junk they sell it should be ok (though I do realize that it is of my own opinion that I think modern is ugly). I know Chelsea Lumber and Big George's in Ann Arbor have nice kitchen set-ups.

Well we went back today to go over some of the things again and I'm very impressed with everything. We went to lowes yesterday and everything seemed way overpriced and even their cheap stuff wasn't that cheap. We are saving at least $3000 easily. We are also getting a granite counter top for $39 a sq ft installed.

Ikea cabinets with Granite counters? Seems like a mis-match.

You would be surprised. I am surprised but they have some really nice stuff, and it can support the weight. They even have some concrete countertops but my wife didnt quite care for those.

Good deal. I was considering granite in my old house, but when I looked at the size and value of the house (even in 1999), I opted for laminate. Sounds like your kitchen will look nice :D
