Anyone Had a Town Car?

I'm getting a new car and I was trying to look into my options. I drove an older lincoln continental ('98 w/ 165k miles) the other day and absolutely loved it. I loved how smooth it was, how quiet it was, and it was so comfortable. So I did some research on these cars and read bad things about their transmissions, and I don't really like FWD cars, so I tossed that out. Then I looked into the town car which looks pretty similar as far as comfort goes. Everything i've read says that these cars are dead reliable.

My problem was that I can't find the newer body style (98+) with less than 120k in good shape. BUT, I can find a 95-97, which seems to be basically the same car, just a little different looking, in great shape with under 100k. Are these decent cars though? Nice to drive, reliable, good on long trips (I have family I visit often 5+ hours away)? And is there any thing I can do as far as modding?

I'm really not a big fan of the 95-97, but I really need a good, low mileage daily driver that won't break down on me all the time. I think these cars would look okay with some decent looking wheels, tint, and some flowmasters. What are everybody's thoughts on these cars?

Whoops, just logged onto that site, turns out they are and it looks like there is a ton of cool things to do to these cars. Thanks!

Best Town Car we has was a 1987. It was digital and buttons, buttons everywhere. I loved that car.

perhaps......i've had an 83,88,95, and i own a 2000 town right now that i've had for 5 years. the 83 and 88 were great, but i'd say the '95 was the best of them all. i'd guess that the odds of finding a lower mileage 89 or older are pretty damn thin. in my opinion the 95-97 are the preferred years for the 91-97 body style. the whole platform was well refined by then. i drove my 95 past 150k with zero mechanical problems. i bought the 2000 with 40k, it has 70k now, but i just like the overall ride and feel of the 95. if you really want a low mileage, 98-up body style, shoot me a pm. i just may be in the mood to move mine......

Just to update everyone, I couldn't find a town car that fit my specs, but I ended up picking up a Grand Marquis tonight. It's a '95, beautifully maintained (new paint gloss every year, undercoating, new simulated soft top, all receipts since new) One owner, with 90k miles. It already has flowmasters and tinted windows, bought it off a a guy who looked about 30ish and clearly loved this car, he bought it from his grandfather who bought it new, he was only selling because he bought a 2010 Grand Marquis.

So far, I am seriously in love with this car, interior and exterior look brand new, runs amazing, sounds awesome, so smooth going down the road. I love it. Only thing I found is that my friend said he smelled a slight oil smell coming from the exhaust while driving behind me, and my oil level is just a little under full. No blue smoke that I could see though, but this tells me it will need valve seals soon, no biggie.
