soooooo long story kind of short,
My buddy's wife has a 2006 Stratus with the 2.7L and it had a coolant leak. Someone else did diag and said it was the lower rad hose housing gasket and they had the seal. I took off the AC compressor, replaced the O-ring and bolted it back. Start the car and it still leaked... ANNNNNNNYWAY-after looking further I find out there is a machined hole in the block RIGHT next to the housing that is the outlet for the weep hole for the water pump. I am fairly certain that it will need a water pump-drips 2 drops every 3-5 seconds.
No big deal, right.... false-the Water pump is pretty much the idler pulley on the timing chain inside of the engine front cover.
I am not too scared of the job but I have never been inside of one of these engines. I have done full rebuilds on Lexus and Mercedes when I was still a mechanic by day.... I will be utilizing the auto hobby shop on base to do it if they decide to keep the car and buy the parts.
Anyone ever done this repair for? Any tips or tricks for the cams and keeping the timing correct?
