Anyone a plumber? I have a plumbing question

So I have a well and my water pressure is surging. If you flush a toilet while some one is taking a shower it will spike to 90psi on the pressure switch and shut the well off for about 60 seconds and then it will kick on for 60 seconds and repeat. I was told I have a bad pressure tank but my pressure tank is still at 38psi like the tag on the outside said it should be at.

Any other ideas? Maybe the pressure swith needs to be adjusted?

I don't want to call a plumber for something simple, but if it is more than something simple I will call.

The diaphragm in your switch may have some shit in it. I pump right from the channel at our cottage and if I get enough sand in the switch it acts up similarly. It will also sometimes cycle on and off multiple times in a few seconds.

I was thinking I just needed a new switch too. That would be something I can handle lol

Is your well kicking on for short bursts when there is no water being used? If you hear the well coming on for no reason, then run for a minute and then kick off. It could be the well pump motor has a cracked housing. This also causes the system not to hold pressure. So it spikes up and down.

Also check to make sure the bladder in your tank isn't leaking. This cause the system to kick on and off to keep up with demand.

It only spikes when running, I was told the tank was bad and that it will lose pressure. My pressure tank had lost air but I did have my pipes freeze this past winter and was able to thaw them right away before anything bad happened. I added air to it a few months back and it hasn't leaked anything since. It didn't start the surging until about a month after I checked and added air to my pressure tank. I will throw a new pressure switch on it and see what happens, worst case scenario I have to call a plumber to put a new pressure tank in.
