Any Oldsmobile guys? Trying to value a cutlass purchase

Came across this guy with a pretty nice cutlass he wants to trade me for one of my jetskis. Went and checked it out today. It's a 1972, 30k original miles (so he says- though it is very clean I could believe it) 350 rocket, interior is MINT, vynil top is brand new, body work is mostly done (had a lot of dings and dents in it that he fixed) only bad thing is from sitting the rear main seal is leaking BAD. But it did fire right up and he said he drove it around a lot last year. Any idea what kind of value would be on something like this? I couldn't find any real rust holes in it, looked very solid and original.

- base model
- grandpa color

if miles can be proved/verified and there are no rot holes its a 9-10k tops before he did the body work

as it sits 5-7k tops

whats the value of the jet ski?

also keep in mind that jet ski will only fall in value the olds will go up

Jet ski value is around 9k give or take. I figured this car to be valued around 7k right now. And you're absolutely correct, the jetski will never go up in value while the car will...so even taking a small hit right now might not be too bad. Though I'd feel a lot better about getting the car and 1500-2000 with it.

And I know it's a odd color combo but it's honestly one of my favorites I've always loved that pale yellow. Wish the top and interior were black but I can live with it

On a GM 5 digit odometer, the digits will not line up perfectly after it has rolled over. A worn brake pedal (or a brand new one from someone trying to hide it) is a good indicator as well.

What is up with the two tone door(gold on the outside, white in the jamb area)?

The rear main seal can be changed without pulling the crankshaft. You can even do it without pulling the engine - you just need to lift the engine a bit to get the oil pan off. Of course, it's easier with the engine on a stand and everything pulled apart, but that can be more work/time than you wish to invest. BOP Engineering sells a good quality two piece seal.

The car is a light yellow/off white color inside and out. My camera white balance just changed a lot with lighting changes. I checked out the accelerator and brake pedal and both look pretty clean. No real wear. From the way it looked inside and underneath I'm not doubting it's a 30k mile car.

To be honest with you, I would think it is only in the 5K to 6K max range because it is just a base car with vinyl interior and that pesky seal leak. But, the doors and interior do look like a 30K mile car. How much is he asking?

grr

Honestly, this is a car i'd try a seal restor in a can to help the rear main, this is the car/seals those were meant for

Wow, the one you bought looks very nice!

Do you know if the other 1972, 30K one is
still available? PM me the info if you have it.

Thank you!

Congrats. Those old Cutlass' are very nice cars. My aunt had a '68 442 convertible in that same color. Was a blast to drive and would smoke the tires a long way from a dig back in the day!!
