I had the same problem on a furnace in one of my rentals a couple weeks ago. Ended up being the gas valve. Also, have them replace, not just clean the flame sensor. Call Critical Heating and Cooling. They have been doing all of my work for some time and always done me right.
Repair clinic is awesome!
If you can find the model of furnace, just do a google search and see what comes up.
Go from there to fine tune your issue and see what is said for repairs.
Repair clinic in Canton seems to have everything, and videos on how to do the task as well.
I rebuild my clothes washing machine by videos on there. Very simple after I put it off for a long time due to being scared of ruining the machine.

Wow, simply wow! J & K Mechanical of Maybee, MI came to my house
today for a 3rd service call. I almost didn’t allow them to come, but
thought I would at least hear what they had to say.
I’ll make it simple. Here are the 3 service calls :
Service call #1
2-10-2016 – Tech Keith inspects furnace, replaces “ignitor”. The service call
was $100 & the part was $116.93 for a total of $216.93 The furnace ran fine
for about half a day, resulting in the same problem. I later found the same ignitor
OEM part for sale locally for $38.
Service call #2
2-12-2016 – Tech John inspects furnace, cleans “the burner” and “flame sensor”.
No return service charge. The furnace ran fine for about half a day, resulting in the same problem.
Service call #3
2-15-2016 - Tech John inspects furnace, checks “gas pressure” and “cleans burner”.
Tech John notices (this time) the “over temp limiter” is bypassed & states that this “safety issue”
must be corrected. Tech John states that he is sorry It has taken 3 services calls to fix this furnace
and that this service call would not be a service charge (although he originally did not write NC on today’s paper work.)
and that he would have to return with the “over temp limiter” part because he didn’t have one on his truck.
Tech John would give me their “preferred customer pricing”, for all the trouble. No additional service charge and only
the cost of the “over temp limiter” part of $$116.81 - I declined.
I was able to find the same OEM part locally for $12.85 I called J & K and explained my 3 services calls
and why their company would never step foot in my home again.
In the meantime, between service calls #2 & #3, I thoroughly cleaned my furnace & sensors.
It remains to be seen if my furnace is “repaired” and working normally. It would appear it
simply may have needed a cleaning.

This sounds so familiar my furnace was having intermittent problems had a company come out twice and could not fix it. So I called a different company and they could not figure it out either. So now I'm right around the $300 dollar Mark and furnace still has issues I found the issue myself it was a birds nest in the cold air intake pipe on the outside of house so the pressure switch was intermittent working due to not enough airflow. Got nest out problem fixed. These so called techs need to go back to school or they are just too damn lazy to check everything.

My furnace has a this dumb sized wide filter... can I just stick 2 in there?

x2. I hate how expensive the wide filters are. I've though about just sticking a single normal one in.

Lets have Falcon64 answer that, he would know for sure, but yes I'm
pretty sure you could use a single filter & simply cover up the gap.

Mine is 6" wide and a special order lol..

Id stick 2 3" filters in there if I was sure it wouldn't cut down on flow.

The best way to double up the filters is to use the blue ones you can cut to fit. Those are also washable so you can cut two sets, wash them every two months and keep your furnace clean and your air quality better.

Lol, thats worse than mine. I only got the 4" wide ones that you can still get anywhere for $15-20 a piece

Have you sat & watched the furnace cycle? When does it quit? In the middle of a cycle, or soon after it trys to unsuccessfully light?
Does the flame light slowly & smoothly or ignite with a poof or what I would refer to as hard/struggles to light?
Were the burners removed from the furnace when the so called technician cleaned it?

My furnace will run / cycle / maintain temp normally.
Then every 12 to 24 hours it will simply stop. It will
not do anything unusual up to that point.
Once it stops, I simply turn the power off then on &
the furnace fires right up & runs / cycles / maintain temp
normally for approx. *12 to 24 hours.
*Since I have cleaned the furnace & all the sensors,
the furnace has run normally since Sunday afternoon.
which is the longest it has now run.
Here is hoping & praying it will continue to do so!
