My great uncle has a 70 t-top Stingray that was his sons. Well his health has been going south and he wants to get rid of the car. I have never been interested in Vettes and have no clue of the value. Its just a 350/auto car that needs paint but runs great. My parents spoke to someone at Classic Auto showplace and they said generally between 13000 & 17000 but they don't know about having them sell it or not. Any advice?

I've only ever owned C5 & C6 Z06s, so I don't know much about those. However, vettes are all the same in that if you try and sell it at the end of summer or in the fall you're gonna get hammered. Wait til May when the weather breaks and people are feeling good, then you'll get more money for it. In my opinion if they can get you between 13-17 take the money and run!

I'm guessing those are the numbers they give on the phone to get you there. I would for sure guess more toward the low side. I totally understand the season thing, but the main goal is to sell the car, not to make a ton of money on it.

Without looking under the car at the condition of the frame and suspension it's tough to say. Take a look through the classifieds on CorvetteForum (link: Click here) and see what people are asking for theirs and go from there. Based on your description and the current market conditions, I think $13k might be optimistic. If they're just looking to sell it quickly they're probably looking at closer to $10k, especially if it's unrestored and has the typical frame/suspension issues that early Corvettes have when they've spent their life in the north.

If it runs take it up to Masterworks 32327 Stephenson Hwy in Madison Heights and talk to Werner Myer. He specializes in anything Corvette and knows the market well and will give you an honest appraisal

If you need it appraised, google Top Hat John, he's local.

I dont like that guy at all! To me he's a joke. He knows a lot but also he dosen't know jack about the higher end and dealer upgraded muscle cars. I once heard him tell someone that was looking at a fully documented Yenko Camaro that the car was wrong because it did not have the bow tie on the grill. he told the guy that Chevy and GM fully backed Don Yenko when infact they did not and requested that Yenko remove the Bow Tie badges from the exterior of the cars.

and wont even be close to real world value, hes great for dealing with a insurance company but

verify numbers on the car, document it well if its a running and driving numbers matching car real world price todays market needing paint to make it a nice car 10k is a good starting point the auto is gonna kill the price I would not be surprised if the selling price is 8k

THJ is good for giving you a great value for your insurance company. my Mustang he appraised at nearly 30k when in reality it probably was closer to 13k at the time.

All that does is have you overpay for your insurance, and if something does happen, then the vehicle is more likely to be fixed instead of totaled.

C3 Corvettes don't bring as much as others. Even C4's do a little better. I've seen some that were worth only $2-$3K and some as high as $45K. What you discribed is probably worth between $7500 & $15K. Paint is a big deal, especially if there are a lot of stress cracks or the front reinforcement is rusty.
