Another "customer service down the shitter" thread

If you are a veteran or have a veteran that can sponser you. I HIGHLY recommend USAA. The best customer service you will ever recieve and very good rates. My insurance went from 119 a month for the saturn and mustang down to 87 a month. I also have my morgage thru them and will soon get my credit card+ checking/savings account with them which will drop my insurance even more....

I've always been happy with state farm. Never had a problem with claims and my agent drove to my house to take pictures of the condition of my mustang and delivered the policy for me. Just needs to get a couple more years on it so I can get classic car coverage.

My gf had AAA on a 01 v6 mustang, full coverage in her dads name where he had everything. It was registered/titled in his name so it looked like it was his car. The cost was 160$ a month! I about shit my pants when he showed me it!

Shit I had a horrible record, had full coverage on a 2005 srt4 and two dd on it and I was at 220 a month! Needles to say I switched her shit to MEEMIC and plpd is 53$ a month. Her dad didn't like that but I told him the last 2 years at 150 plus dollars she could of bough another on just like it. When I did the math 150x24=2600 plus dollars I about shit.

MEEMIC is great but you need to have a clean driving record to have it
my wife is a U of M employee which qualified us to go with MEEMIC but I was using my car for work and they would not insure it
now that I work for ply canton schools we switched back
HOLY SHIT!!!!! we are saving $1000 a year
my state farm agent keeps sending me letters asking me to come back..... I laugh and throw them away

Im paying $244 through Allstate for my G8 and Lightning and feel like Im getting ripped off, definitely changing soon.
There are several reasons for the ridiculous cost of insurance in Michigan. Here are the ones I know:
1.) Unlimited lifetime medical benefits for accident victims (one of the only states in the country that is unlimited)
2.) No fault
3.) Already high rates yields more uninsured drivers which yields higher rates (viscous cycle)
4.) The $500K supplemental policy (required, costs a set price of $175 this year, will be $183 July 1st, and of course this will be passed along to you the consumer, further raising your rates)
I’m sure there is more to it but this is what I know. This article linked mentions all of the issues briefly:

I believe in independents that try. It worked great for the 3 years I was in Wisconsin. Periodically my agent would run quotes on me and if it went down enough she'd ask me if I wanted to switch.

I had an independent here who mostly sold Citizens/Hanover. Over the course of a two year period my independent's cost doubled. I'd call, he'd notch it back a bit. Keep in mind I pay for a year in full. Last year half way through the year they sent me a bill for $250 half way through "because rates had gone up".

Well, I've switched to MEEMIC again (I had them years ago when I worked at an educator) as my wife is working for an educator and my policies with more coverage is less than half. It required jumping through a TON of hoops to get my house insured but it's roughly 40% cheaper with more coverage.

All insurance companies ask for a declarations page so then they can see "how they're doing". All you need to provide to any insurance company is proof of insurance (what you're supposed to be keeping in your car anyway, or your front page for your homeowner's policy) in order to get the discount for having a previous policy (aka proof that you are insurable, kind of like for medical insurance). The less information you provide them, the better.
