Doing the jailbroken firestick is looking tempting, so, tell about it, any tips, etc.

Stick and Box here both broke and working flawlessly. Its awesome for commercial free TV watching and Movies Galore!!!

Does jailbreaking it make the FireStik "home screeen" look any different? Meaning, will my wife get pissed off I did something to the Firestik, she can still use it the same way, and I can do the cool Kodi stuff when I want to?

Maybe I'm doing something wrong. Just can't get great quality with kodi on the firestick.

Much of the quality has to do with the content itself. For instance, if you're watching movies that are currently in theaters, chances are you're watching a telesynced version. Telesynced movies are recorded with a camera in the theater and aren't of the same quality as a retail bluray that has been transcoded.

It'll be the same, Kodi is just an app that's installed to the Firestick like any other app.

Is that also the case with TV shows that were just aired?

No, those are ripped directly from a DVR. The people that upload the material usually have a DVR back-end such as MythTV or Windows Media Center running in conjunction with a CableCARD tuner, such as a HDHomerun Prime. It's usually the same quality as what you're seeing on TV. The only exception is older TV shows, of which many aren't available on bluray or in HD to begin with. Those will usually be xvid encodes and may be of so-so quality. When I say old, think The Jeffersons, Sanford and Son, All In The Family, etc.

Ya maybe I just didn't give a good shot. I'm familiar with torrents and get the cams and what not but maybe I just need to try it some more.

Whats the advantage of a box over the stick. I'm looking to do this as well. I played with XBMC on my pc a while back but didnt get far with it. KODI seems much easier.

Kodi is XBMC (Xbox Media Center), the team just changed the name because it's no longer made for Xbox. The Fire TV has double the RAM and double the CPU of the Stick. It also has 10/100 ethernet, so it can be used with wired connections. The main reasons to pick a Fire TV over a Stick would be wired ethernet and greater gaming capabilities. If you aren't using ethernet and not gaming, both will have very similar performance when it comes to media streaming.

Staples carries the Fire Sticks in store. 15% off in store purchase coupon from Staples are pretty easy to come by online. Brings the Fire Stick to $34 before tax.

Did mine tonight, kodi with the fusion add on. Thanks Tin for the info.:coolio:

Gonna be a late nite:hugegrin:
