am i screwed....again?

XD LMAO!!!!

no... im gonna just get it honed. and the guy that's doing it has a little bit of knowledge about what hes doing, but he works on chevys more than fords so he is giving me some shit. lol... i could probably get away with running it but sending a hone through it wont hurt it.... hell i might just get all the cylinders honed and replace the bearings for good measure.

LUCKILY my tax returns are a bit more than i usually get... so ill be able to do a bit more with this engine

well it says he is from poho one of you fellas need to give him a hand
I believe I suggested to leave every one of the motors he bought alone and just fire it up. I also told him his original motor sounded good and to leave it be. Then his "buddies" talked him into busting into the motor and it all went down hill from there. In a hurry.

I'm sure his buddies are "experts".

This reminds me of something recent..... I built a motor for a guy who is out of state, before he ever even finished putting it together such as oil pan, intake, dampener, ect.... He took the heads off to inspect them (also brand freaking new) then he took them apart. He already needed new valve seals because you cant reuse them, and he did all this because Isky told him to run their springs because they had 5lbs more seat pressure, lol. He got his heads back together after i explained he didnt need to spend the extra money on them, but then I get a call saying he took the motor apart now! He said he wanted to make sure it was put together right, yet he has NO IDEA how to build one! I told him Im basically done dealing with him and I cant help him anymore. There is a lot I left out in this debacle, but it basically breaks down to him calling me 4 times a day for a month asking questions, then doing he exact opposite of what i say. Why ask for help/advice if your going to do the opposite? Sorry for my long winded story, this thread just reminded me of this. Also, this wasnt a dig at the OP of the thread

actually NO. the engine came to me with one of the heads already off. the people that bought it from me took a head off to see if it was actually bored over already or not. so they gave it to me with one head off so i decided to take the other one off for safe measure since he gave me a new set of head gaskets i might as well have replaced both head gaskets while the engine is out of the car. not my fault i use my eyes to look in the cylidners while the head is off, god forbid. its not like im not taking your advice. im just taking extra measures to make sure its okay.

as far as my other engine.... its still up in the air as far as if im going to use that one. all it needs is some better heads. so i could use the ones from the engine i bought and be good. i still haven't decided.

just an update, pulled all of the pistons out of the engine and doing rings and bearings.... honed out that cylinder and it cleaned up well. oh and for everyone who told me to just run it.... the rings on the cylinder with rust were so corroded in the lands they compressed themselves and stayed there. we were barely able to take them off. there's no way they would have seated against the cylinder with all that corrosion. GLAD I DIDNT RUN IT

no, not my experience. this is coming from someone else. but by the looks of it... it made sense. even i can understand whats going on when i have 7 pistons with rings freely spinning and 1 that has rings compressed completely around the piston. and my god were those lands filthy.

Weren't you looking for an engine that didn't need any work? I thought I saw that in a want ad you posted up.

You need to learn to trust your own judgement. If you feel uncomfortable with something in that mill, or see something that looks unsetteling to you, have someone who has been there come out and look at it for you. When you discribe the engine on the forum, it sounds just like something each of us has already been thru, but it might not be. Don't take the advise to start it as bad advise, or the WD40 trick as bad advise. Both have worked for me in the past, but had you taken the engine apart fully it inspect it for a root cause and further effects, you might have gotten different advise. They are working with what you provided them for info. Trust your gut feeling.

By the way, Raj and Twisted are a couple of standup guys. You will be pressed to find better guys to give you advise. Good luck with your project.
