am i screwed....again?

well i soaked it a ton with wd40 overnight and it seemed to clean some off... but its definitely still there, hopefully when i run it it is okay. i guess if i see smoke coming out of the tailpipe ill know for sure. but ive read a lot of people just starting rusty engines right up and them running fine so i guess it wont hurt to try and see what happens... lol

whats the best thing to use to clean the head gasket surfaces, this setup has ARP studs so theres no gasket stuck to the block, but there is lines

also theres the tiniest mark on the 1st cylinder right on the edge where it turns from cylinder wall to head gasket surface. should i worry about it, the piston doesnt even travel on it.

Your gonna get a little smoke when you fire it up. If the oil pressures good and your not getting a death rattle you should be ok.

thank you. i will however change the oil ASAP just incase any particles of steel wool got in there, dont wanna mess up the bearings

shit man, just run it. Ive ran cams that look worse than that and they were fine, lol

All you need to really do is get the loose stuff off with 0000 steel wool and the wd40, then wipe off the cyl wall with a clean rag or paper towel

okay so im using a dremel tool to clean the gasket surface off with a sandpaper attatchment. is that appropriate to use?

fuck my life, i used it just a bit around some of the surface. did i just fuck the surface of it/made it uneven?

depends on how hard you hit the top of the surface. ( post a pic of it) Always use the little scotch bright pads if your going to use a disc grinder. Or the rubber ones made for taking off gasket material.

Really should google search some shit to get an idea of the right way to do it if you aren't sure.

Did you use it on the deck of the block or on the other gasket surfaces?
If you got it good and shiney you made it uneven. Those sparks you saw- those were metal. You dont want to remove metal, just the gasket

I like wire wheels on a 1/4" angle grinder, works awesome...just just have to be careful to not leave any of the wires anywhere they shouldnt be when they fly off. Put it together, i've run worse

i must say i agree with twisted in this whole thread, you should have just fired it up and you should have never used an electric tool for any of it, the cylinder wall would have cleaned right up and a gasket scraper would have done fine on the cylinder head deck. done it plenty of times

okay so now what should i do since the deck surface is uneven........... because yes i did use that tool on the deck surface. around outer parts of the cylinder where it goes towards the exhaust

well, i went and checked on the engine, and i see where i used the tool, that you can still see some marks from where the gasket was. maybe it didnt go too deep on the surface? i wasnt pressing really hard.

and against most popular vote of just starting it up, i have a friend that is coming over to hone it for me. just to clean it up good.
