Aircooled VW's... Anyone here tune them?

I picked up a 'toy' that has a 1641cc dual port VW engine, mild cam, stinger exhaust, and a weber progressive carb.

From what I'm reading the first few things ill be doing is adding a fuel pressure regulator (set to 3psi) and adjusting the valve lash, changing the plugs & points, and adjusting the timing. Then comes adjusting the carb.

I am pretty handing w/ the Pontiac 3800's and Subaru engines, but I have not had my hands on an aircooled since 1994 when I sold my `71 bug.

If anyone has any experience tuning these, esp w/ the weber progressive, i'd pay for your help.

Thanks!

Sounds like your going the right direction. Is it running now? I've had my share of experience with webers, but never on the progresive. If you just want to pay some one to do it for you, call Don's Sport and RV.

I used to set my valve lash at .002. Don't forget to set your rocker arm lash (side to side) not fun but it helps alot. What heads are on the motor? How does it run now?
