Above ground pools

My g/f wants us to buy an above ground pool with our tax money next spring, I know nothing about them other then the sales guy is telling us at different stores. Anybody have advice? I don't want to buy some pile of dog shit that will be no good a year from now.

I don't know anything but my good friends family owns the Viscount pools franchises so I could get you his number if you want it and he will answer all your questions. They have locations all over the state pretty much. Let me know and I can get you in contact.

As Mitch Hedberg would say "I saw a commercial for an above-ground pool, it was 30 seconds long. Because that's the maximum amount of time you can picture yourself having fun in an above-ground pool. If it was 31 seconds, the actor would say "The water is only up to here? What do I do now? Throw the ball back to Jimmy? Or put some goggles on and look at his feet?"

My grandma had one when we were little. they bought from Evergreen on 8 Mile and Kelly. Not sure if they're still around. Overall we liked it in the summer time. But check out Viscount as well as mentioned above. the seem reputable.

Damn you Zack!!! I was just coming in here to post the Mitch Hedberg quote.

That's all I have to contribute. My friend had an above ground pool when were growing up. It was deeper in the middle than around the sides so it didn't completely suck. I'm pretty sure it was deeper than 5 feet in the middle so it was above our heads when we were little. If course, any pool is better than having no pool at all when it's hot outside.

I have some advice for you, DON'T BOTHER!!!

That would be cool, I've been shopping around but all I've gotten is conficting stories every place I've gone so I don't know who's telling the truth or not.

Why's that Al?
They are a WAY bigger pain in the ass then they are worth. All pools are, but more so above ground pools. The only reason why mine is still up is because I have an 8 year old daughter that would be crushed if I tear it down.

Al, move her out of the way first.

I agree with Al, don't bother.

You'll need a heater to make it even close to worth it, as our summer isnt long or hot enough to keep it warm throughout the year.

Also vaccuuming, chemicals, leaves, duck shit, etc takes its toll.

I had an above ground and tore it down because I used it like 5 times in 2 years, was the best mod to the house i've done. :)

I'm not sure.. we've had one for 20+ years and love it. Granted it isnt as nice as an in ground but a TON cheaper. Anyone with hand tools and half a brain can assemble it. I dont think we paid very much for it but having a deck/ or slide is a MUST!

Viscount runs a big sale every Labor Day weekend. We saved 50-60% on a complete package- 27' diameter Esther Williams + pump + cartridge filter + purifier. Also part of the deal included a rebate for free installation. The brand is really good quality- the sides don't flinch when I walk on 'em and I weigh ~265#.

My wife, kids, and guests love it. I on the other hand pray for it's demise in some dramatic fashion.

Viscount pools on Grosebeck is AWESOME! Jeff is the owner there guy helped me out a ton (if you go tell him best buy black guy sent you lol), I used to be like most people and hate my pool but its actually REALLY EASY when you close it right, I opened my pool this year clear and it was because of the staff at viscount pool, and chemecials wont cost you much after the water is balanced I think my pool cost me 50 bucks a month if not cheaper and that includes adding a few gallons of water (20-30ish). I have a 25,000 gallon above ground pool. Get a good vacumm take the time to learn what chemeicals do what and you will love it! (took me 3 years to be a MASTER lol) And you dont need a heater the water is not THAT cold, you hop in and its not bad at all, also solar fish are AMAZING!
