A guy came to my house today. He owns a company called Power Paving. As some of you know, my driveway is tore up from the floor up. All dirt and really long, winding through the woods. This guy was trying to sell me an asphalt driveway. He seemed legit and knew exactly what to do. He showed up in a nice company truck, he's licensed, insured and even has a toll free number.
He showed me a portfolio of his work and equipment and it looks like he does some kick ass work and pretty big jobs for a lot of places.
He was telling me that he was down on his luck and had no work, so he'll do my driveway for super cheep. He said he has a stock pile of material and all the professional equipment his company owns is already paid off and he just wants to make money to get some of the material cost back. He owns some bad ass machines that you see Michigan road crews working with. He told me he was going to level the whole driveway out and then lay the blacktop down. He priced it out at under 60 cents a square foot. The total bill was 3 grand out the door cash after the job was done. My driveway is 5500 sq feet.
Now I've priced out my driveway before through other company's that I called, and no one was under 12 grand for a complete job. So 3 grand seems like the deal of the century. He also said he would get his crew on it and have it done in one day.
I dont know though. Everything about his company checks out except for the price. My gut feeling tells me that if it's too good to be true, it probably is. I just dont want to be one of those guys that missed a super opportunity because I'm skeptical. He even told me not to pay until the job was done because he already had all the material on hand at his shop. What would you guys do???
