99 Cobra built short/turbo/auto

This thing is nearing completion and I'm bored at work so I figured I would fill you guys in..

I bought the car in early 2007 bone stock and it ran a 13.8@103. I bolted on Bassani mid-length headers, catted X, and FR500 catback and it ran 13.01@107. The car made 302/298 when it was parked for the winter. In 2008, I bought a Vortech S-trim, made 502/433 on 10psi, and promptly broke the stock T45 and 28 spline rear end. I replaced those with a built T56 and a Torsen T2R differential and managed to run 11.8@123 short shifting at 6k before it was parked for the winter. In 2009, it never really came out of the garage. I took it apart to change a few things, the project snowballed, and turned into what it is today.

Pics of the old Vortech days…

I installed a Transgo manual valvebody kit. Don't really have any pics from the install, hands were too dirty.

Buttoned up and ready to go back in the transmission.

I made a plate for the shifter to try and do the least amount of cutting in the tunnel possible.

I decided to mount the plate from underneath and it turned out well.

Before I bought those, I had actually starting designing my own in UGX7.0. I'll probably still continue with those, but I'll be running these in the meantime. I threw those on and mocked up the hotside.

It's visible in the last picture, but I had to revise my coolant crossover pipe for the third or fourth time to make sure the outlet was high enough to avoid the downpipe.

Probably missin some stuff but you get the point. I know there's some builders on here so if you see anything out of wack, please let me know.

I would seriously consider replacing that stock converter with one that is reinforced for anti-ballooning. lots of guys on ModularFords having problems with thrust bearings being eaten up...

You live right around the corner from my buddy, I want a ride in this bitch when youre done.

Are you talking about Saif? Hopefully that's soon, we'll see how everything comes together though

Yea, I really didn't plan on keeping a stocker in there, I just can't seem to find too many small displacement guys running this turbo and with a similar setup. Ideally, I'd like to do some light testing, figure out where the boost hits, and order a converter from there instead of wasting money now and rebuilding later. Bearing definitely has me worried though, now that you bring it up.

Sweet setup. Are you going to build a brace for the turbo? Maybe I missed that part

I bought an inlet flange with a provision to make a mount. I wanted to get it together and build one with everything in place so I didn't have to work around the mount. I'll be making one to two or three of the front cover bolts with some 1/4" rod, just need to put the time in.
