umm ok. thats not the problem. the problem is it stays on constant. i can have the heat completely turned off. it comes on early in the morning when i first go to it and only turn the power on. no matter what if there power, its on.
Do you just have the blower motor off or is the havc setting still on defrost? If its in the defrost position at all it will run the cooling fan.

If not check the fan switch. I'm not sure where they are on those cars but it should be a simple fix. Oh and also check to see if someone grounded out the wire from the fan switch so the fan will stay on all the time. The switch should be on one of the heads or on the intake somewhere.

guess ill have to see if i can find where the fan switch is and also check to see how its wired, if i can. im not very good with wiring on cars for some reason.

there is 3 knobs to the controls. the knob that turns to the defrost also has an off setting. not my picture, but it shows what im talking about.

Its probably staying on because the fan relay welded its self closed, you should have a few in the relay box that are the same, try swaping them around and see if it stays on

well, the other day i noticed the fan starting to have this grinding noise. the next night i went out to start it up to warm up and i heard the fan and the grinding noise stop. i assumed the fan motor took a crap. sure enough, the fan was not working at all and the engine overheated. i talked to the previous owner who has had the car since 96 and he told me he did in fact wire the fan directly to the fuse box so it stayed on constant. so, that answered why it was always on. he then told me he did that because the fan switch or whatever stopped working so instead of fixing it like he should have, he just wired it to always run. he told me there was a recall on the fan switch but they never took it in to be replaced and did not know if i would still be able to or not, which im doubting. i found the wire he ran and unhooked it from the fuse box, then wraped electrical tape around the end until i can get this fixed. i prefer to fix it the right way. there for i know i need a new fan motor, or hole fan. but im also gonna have to figure something out with that fan switch, which i have no clue where its at. anyone know?

well, i got a new fan motor and coolent temp sensor and installed those last night. its still not working. so next im checking into the fan controller/relay. my qaustion is however, advanced auto parts has a engine block temp switch with or without a guage? also there is a engine temp sedning unit with guage... they both look like the same thing. whats the difference?

fan relay is internal to the CCRM(constant control relay module), controlled by the PCM off coolant temp from the ECT

odds are that it is a bad CCRM

ok, now i got you. thanks for breaking that up for me. sounds like thats my problem then. so whats the difference between a engine temp sending unit and a engine block temp switch? they both look identical.
