well my wife just called me and said she was turning on to our street and the car stalled out. its turning over but doesnt start now. I'm still at work so i wont be able to look at it till later. The car only has 43,000 miles on it. I'm guessing I can check to make sure the belts are on and good. i wouldnt think it would be the plugs? why would they all of the sudden go out. I'm not sure if its the ignition module either. Not sure if i have anything at home to test with. I'm going to check the fuel pump as well. otherwise I think i'll have to take it somewhere.

oh and its a 1.9L

I understand that its only got 43k on it but its old as hell and those 1.9's are known for popping timing belts . ask her if it sounds like its spinning over very fast faster than normal/usual??

Oh yeah those things were notorious for fuel pumps as well. ck with key in on position and see if its got pressure at the fuel rail.

Yah i was trying to listen the best i could over the phone and my wife isnt the best at following directions. so ill have to wait a few hours. i dont have a fuel pressure kit. Maybe ill go buy one. Is there another way to test for it without it?

Just find the valve on the fuel rail and take the cap off of it turn the key on and stick like a pin tip or something in it, if fuel shoots out of it than you prob have enough pressure for the car to start if it just dribbles out you prob have a bad pump

and if the fuel dribbles out, reset the inertia switch

dont be surprised if it ends up being a timing belt though

Well its getting fuel. It spit out just fine (actually geysoured). I checked the timing belt and it appears to still be on. I don't hear anything loose in there. When i turn the key it sounds like it isn't even trying to start, it just keeps spinning. I'm guessing spark at this point.

Well its getting spark. I peeled back that timing belt cover and had my wife turn it over and the belt/gear didn't move at all. so its probably shredded at the bottom. i heard the timing belts sucked on these. I'm thinking thats it now

Its not so Bad just replace the tensioner and the WaterPump with it or you will REGRET it Soon

X2 and there non interference don't have to worry about valves smacking the pistons

x2 Ford was smart enough to keep there PtV clearances big. I've done, these belts in less than 2 hours with a tensioner and water pump. Its easy, just read a how to on it, replace the waterpump and tensioner as well as the idler and make sure your marks are dead on. Once the belt is on, rotate the engine by hand and recheck the marks. I usually throw the crank back on just to check how it runs before I do final assembly. If you are taking it to a shop, be prepared to spend 700+ on it.
