88 mustang issue.

A friend of mine got a 88 5.0 vert today. Drove fine running good. Took it to the store and pow crank no start. He added starting fluid and fresh gas, Replaced coil wire. The fuel pump is running but it did not want to start it did fire but was running bad"on 2 or 3 cyl" Puking fuel out the tail pipe. I have not looked at it. Im thinking its a spark issue. Any ideas? I will look at it over the weekend. I was thinking TFI module but he said he did get it to run"Like crap and wound not rev up even in park." (dont TFI modules just quit and never work again)

Just for the record I am a ase master tech. But not a driveablity guy Go figure. I plan to check for spark and timing but how it quit is screaming spark at me.

I can cheet I will take my stang with me. That way I can swap parts for test.
 
Sounds like mine when the coil took a shit. It died a long slow death so this was something that took forever to nail down. Would run fine for weeks than just wouldn't start. 5 minutes later- VROOOOOM.
 
Had another situation with a different vehicle where my car would run fine until I got about a 1/2 mile from the house then it would start sputtering real bad. Bad coil that time too.
 
basically just gotta run through some basic tests. Check for Fuel Pressure, check for spark out of the Dist Cap & down to the plugs etc..
