Hey guys so i was tinking with my stang finally got it started, running but not idling yet, played with it a weekend or two back with starting and trying to get it to idle/ trying to get timing right , anyways started it ran for prolly 2 mins and noticed smoke out of rear, my battery had fried the neg cable , i immediately shut car off, not only did it fry the neg cable but toasted my Optima yellow top , it ran fine when i first started car, any ideas what may have happened? Also i do not think the alternator was charging, and its brand new replacement . theres no computer harness but wires for alt,starter and accessory's are there, any info would be appreciated , thanks Rob

Sounds like a pretty hard short to ground. I'd take a look at that alternator cable and see if it's toasty anywhere. It could also be the alternator itself, actually just today we had a car come in with a burned alternator cable. Thought it had shorted out on something so I installed a new one. Started the car up and smoke poured out of the alternator. It was a brand new Powermaster too. Not a fan on them btw.
