After a little cleaning and removing most of the parts

Permanently moved into the garage

IMG_0147.jpg

Got rid of that pesky heavy sound deadening material

IMG_0172.jpg

And finally fitting some things back on
IMG_0163.jpg

Need to do some grinding/removing parts to make it work

Its going a be a long several year road but eventually I should have a track worthy Mustang!

I got me a trans (TKO-600)

and a fuel cell

A couple sets of wheels for when she can roll again

I started hacking on the hood, she's down to 35#'s in the picture and I got it all the way down to 25#'s but it will need a hand full of hood pins. Hopefully the engine will fit underneath when I'm done;-) The trunk lid I cut down to 13#'s but it will need several pins as well.

Trunk? We don't need no stinking trunk! Hopefully the fuel cell has plenty of room once I bolt up the IRS:??:

And speaking of the IRS, that means there isn't a need for those pesky upper control arm mounts
IMG_0457.jpg

After doing all this work, why would I ever put conventional springs on this thing? I guess the spring buckets aren't necessary then:-D:banana:

I'm getting pretty close to needing parts before I can continue, I still need a welder so I can start getting the cage in this thing! I already got the tubing bender at a good price.

I'm planning on a 351W since I already have a good block in the pole barn and a crank for it. I will be using Maximum Motorsports front suspension. I haven't decided on which coil-overs I plan to get yet though. My goal is 2500#'s dry weight once finished. It's going to be several years before I'm finished I think since I don't have a lot of spare cash right now. Hopefully it will move along faster than a glacier though!

Thanks guys, I'm working on doing my own bushings for the IRS which came out of an '03 Cobra. It should be quite a ride once I get it done, which hopefully won't take me too much longer! I'll have my Lightning paid off next summer which will help out the money tree then, HAHA.

EDIT: The reason for the IRS is because I don't plan on doing any hard launches so I shouldn't experience the breakage problems a lot of the strip guys have. To make a solid axle perform under these platforms from what I've read takes quite a bit of work anyways and I just thought I'd do something different. Plus talking to guys who have road raced both IRS and straight axle cars, they preferred the smoothness of the IRS. It does have durability problems when contact occurs but hopefully I won't be running into too many people!

Its about time I see a build like this on here!

Glad to deliever, hopefully I don't screw it up too bad

Good reasons. Keep up the good work and keep taking pictures..

I will, right now I'm saving up the money for a good welder so that I can start the seam welding, then comes subframe connectors and the cage. It'll probably be several months before I make it that far though. I'll make sure to get pictures of it all though.
