Thanks, that's good to know. Same goes for say a 1/2" pin stripe? I've got a truck that I wanna detail soon and there is about 1" above the stripe I'd like to take scratches out of. So I can use a DA over that but take it easy with RPM's?
Remember - all the pin striping was removed prior to us polishing as Ice Nine was going to be installing fresh striping all the way around this baby. Only the bird on the hood, the "Trans Am" stickers, and the birds on the C-pillars were left which made polishing that much easier.
When it doubt, I'd say don't do it, especially on thinner striping. In your case, use painters tape on the top edge of the striping and lower to mask off the stripe, and then polish the area about it. When finished with the area above, retape the stripe from the bottom edge up, and you can then polish the underside.
For an example: look at this all original (except battery) '69 Camaro SS:
When in doubt, tape things off and treat them well. You can always go over things 2 or more times if need be. If you damage something you'll be kicking yourself at the money and time you'll now have to spend to make it right. I'd always rather have a bit more work to do in a safer manner than to try to get lucky doing it once. Safety is always first!
In the end, all the graphics still looked outstanding, and with the paint corrected, the entire car came together well. Outstanding paint isn't going to make up for ruined graphics that would have been fine had you spent an extra 30 minutes.
