Wouldnt it have been easier to use a high build primer as opposed to all that mud? I am not a body guy, but it looks like a ton of work this way.

That quarter was caved in pretty bad over the wheel opening. I pulled out most of it, but it was still low. I didn't want to put in a patch because it's rust free metal. Besides, 95% of that filler is sanded off now. It is a lot of work doing it that way, but the car will be straight when I'm done. I usually bang out the dents, skim coat the whole car with filler, sand, skim coat it again with glazing putty, sand, then move on to the filler primer and sand some more. Basically I just sand and sand and sand.

Sanding primer is equally the amount of work. He did it the right way. So many dings and dents go hidden until you lay some clear on it! Lol. This way they will ALL be found. Like he said, most of that is gone.

Bodywork ain't easy. And if you find a guy that will do it for pennies. Good luck! You'll need it the second time around

Skim coating is the best way to get something straight. I love the guys who have their old cars for sale with NO BONDO. Every nice car gets bondo. Like he said, 95% of it is sanded off. This is just to fill all the little dings and dents, low spots ect.

Skim coated the entire quarter, most of it will wind up on the floor. I'm letting it harden as I type this..... then back out to it.

I spent three months doing this to my car, so I feel for ya. It is worth every second when you see it all painted though. By the way, there is a company out there that does this spray metal opperation to rusted body panels. You basically take them the panel or car after you blast it and they apply this metal material to the holes that are left after blasting. From there you just work the sprayed on material like you would filler. Something different to check on. Awsome car though. Good,luck with your build!

Looks like a nice project. Keep sending the updated photos. I am doing a 70' Challenger myself. Sorry, I don't have any pictures of it on my home computer. I only have a few at work. Mine is going to be a twin turbo Drag radial/10.5 car,someday.........

Been pluggin' away. Decklid's done and ready for paint, trunkpan's in and painted, roofs mostly fixed, front and rear window channels are fixed, etc.
I bumped the doors, straightened them out, shot some epoxy primer on them last night, hit them with some filler primer today. One was pretty bad, had to do a lot of massaging to get it straight.

A few more. Don't make fun of my welds, my MIG just took a shit, so I had to TIG everything, and I'm still learning.

Rusty sheet metal + TIG = yuck Hopefully your working with a mig now. I tried doing mine for quite a while but once I got my Miller 140 life got a lot easier.

Thanks! I'm gonna go buy a new mig soon. I did all the metal work first, so it's done now, but it sucks not having a good mig welder. Mine works, just not well, at all. The heat comes and goes, like someone is turning the knob when I'm using it, and the wire doesn't feed well at slow speeds. I replaced the liner, didn't help. I think the whole thing is just worn out. It's pretty old.

Finally got some primer on the body. Gonna start blocking it out tomorrow, it shouldn't take much, I mudded the whole damn car. I'm sure there will be a few spots I missed.
