70 Challenger R/T project thread

This is mostly a body & paint project. It's a 70 Challenger R/T 383 4 speed car. Pretty solid, just a few common problem spots. The factory color is Vitamin C orange (think pumpkin). Here's a few pics of what I'm up against. I'm waiting on a trunk pan, hood and left fender, the one that came with the car is pretty bad.

A few more. Don't make fun of my welds, my MIG just took a shit, so I had to TIG everything, and I'm still learning. Oh, and some A$$hole rattle canned the whole thing black, so I gotta take that off too.

Thanks. The only thing I'm a little worried about is the caved in 1/4 over the tire. It was a lot worse, but I was able to pull some of it. It just has a really defined wheel lip that's gonna be a bitch to fix.

Oh, and it's not mine, it's a friend of mine I'm helping out, he's in over his head. Thought it was in better shape when he bought it. (out of state, sight unseen)

ambitious project, but seems you've got the right approach. that said, fuck e-bodies. i love me some cuda's, but the sheer expense of doing a mopar has driven me to the blue oval.

keep us updated on the build!!!!

should be "go mango" Ek2 or Hemi orange EV2 depending on what fender tag says, I have a shit load of parts for challangers, fenders doors, glass a driver quarter panel

Trunk pan's in, rear window corners are both fixed. Pulled the doors, rebuilt the hinges (common problem, the doors weigh 100 lbs each) I got most of the cave-in over the right rear tire pulled and got some filler on it, not done with that yet.

Holy Bondo Batman!!

Skim coated the entire quarter, most of it will wind up on the floor. I'm letting it harden as I type this..... then back out to it.

Man I'm thinking its def time for a project car. its nice having my chevelle all done but I want something I can make look really good.

Wouldnt it have been easier to use a high build primer as opposed to all that mud? I am not a body guy, but it looks like a ton of work this way.
