65' Mustang Build

I picked up this car to do a build with my dad, as he has shown a lot of interest after seeing what I've done with my car. He's never been down the track or had anything real fast. The car has been backhalved with a Chris Alston 4 link. Needs a lot of work, but should be a fun car when it's done.

Powertrain plan is a Coyote crate motor with some boost. Preferably a turbo if I make the decision lol.

I will need a lot of parts to complete the car, so if anyone has parts or knows someone with parts let me know.

What kind of parts are you looking for? Body/Interior/Front suspension?

I sourced most of my parts for my 69 from National Parts Depot in Canton MI.

If you are looking at stock/stock style suspension, look at Global West tubular control arms. If you plan on getting crazier, go with a Mustang II IFS. Its a MUCH better suspension setup than the 1st gen Mustang

I think I looked at that car, if it was the one in Fenton. I am doing a 69 with a Coyote right now, the TCI stuff designed for it fit perfectly.

This car was in Cohoctah. Although I assume there isn't a whole lot of backhalved 65 rollers around maybe it's the same car.

plan is to do the mustang 2 front suspension. Notch the towers, add to the cage a bit.

Do you need to keep the shock towers with the MII IFS? If you can get away without them, just cut them out, add bracing from the firewall to the fender aprons and put a filler plate in the old tower opening. It will buy you a ton of space in the engine bay. I would also look into adding gussets from the fender aprons to the firewall/torque boxes like they did on the BOSS 429 cars, depending on your possible cage/cage point locations

With the M2 suspension I believe you can completely eliminate the towers. I'm sure that is needed to get a coyote in there anyway.

Raj, is that Tci setup the only "kit" made that allows you to bolt a 5.0 coyote in? I was looking at AJE stuff and they make a k member setup but it appears you have to use the factory towers to mount the coilover setup. I like the M2 suspension better, looks much cleaner

I have the AJE one for my 67. Decided to go this route because of its flexibility. Just waiting for the weather to turn before putting it in. Good luck with the project!

Yes, any MII kit allows you to completely remove the towers. The TCI kit was deemed to be the best quality kit that was designed for the Coyote engine, just based on guys on the restomod forums. We mocked it up with the stock frame rails and it looked like it fit really nice. We ended up building all new rails anyhow though. If you want to check it out you're welcome to, the car is at a shop called Eliminator Customs.

The AJE stuff is cool also, but doesn't provide as much room as an MII style kit. It uses proven FOX style stuff in the front though. I"m also doing a 65 Comet but that one is set up to use all FOX replacement components and a custom k-member.

Here's a pic of the TCI kit on the custom frame (fits the same way on the stock rails) and with a mockup Coyote engine on it.
