'55 Chevy Bel Air Build Thread

Some pretty in depth surgery happening. New front floors, new inner and outer rockers, new lower rear quarter, and a few braces underneath.

The rockers didnt look bad - thats because they were covered with fiberglass once upon a time. The metal had literally eroded away leaving just the fiber glass shell. Pretty crazy.

Anyways, the other side will get the same treatment. Still undecide on what to do with the patina/paint after the metal work.

The patina on that car is kind of next level.

After I get the new metal in it, I really don't know what to do with it. Surface rust the new metal and matte clear it? Leave it shiny and matte clear it? Try to paint the new metal and faux patina it?

I could also prep the entire car and paint it, but I really don't want to. Kind of tells a story, but IDK. I also keep repeating myself on this subject. LOL

Finished welding in the braces on the underside yesterday, sealed and POR-15'd everything. Floors look so nice I almost hated putting carpet over them.

Dusty, but you get the idea. I just have to stretch the carpet and install the sill plates and the new headers, and then its off to the exhaust shop.

I also need to add the photos of the floors before paint to this thread.

Ordered a Soundstream bluetooth amp to hide in the glovebox, and a 6x9 for the factory dash location. Dual tweeter for LH and RH channel as there is only one speaker up front.

I should have ran the wires for the rears before I screwed the sill plates down. :loser:

I've lost track of where this thing is at in this thread, but she's basically done.

New updates:

Bluetooth amp
2 Channel speaker
New headers
New Exhaust
New Wires and wire boots
Moon Tac
Cleaned up a shit ton of wiring under that dash that is part of the ignition system

Whats left:

Put the rest of the trim on
I want to take a stab at upholstering new door cards myself.

This is a badass build! You must feel like a celebrity with all the attention you get driving it.

I have to admit, I am shocked at how much attention it gets. I'm getting tired of people asking to buy it, but otherwise its fun.

I drove the fuck out of it last year. I will this year too.

i never thought I would like a 50s car, but this reminds me of a car my dads buddy had when I was growing up, and I dont know why you wouldnt just drive this car everyday, its very cool, I hope you get to enjoy it very much.

Trim is all back on it. On the passenger side one of the door points is new and doesn't like up well. I'm going to find a crusty used one instead. But I'm happy with how it looks otherwise. I need to get the bel air scripts on next.
