can i do a junkyard conversion for cheaper than buy the kit? what parts would i need to do it? ive got a 1991 gt covt. advice would be greatly appreciated

some 5 lug rims and tires for starters XD i think you can do a junkyard swap you can use the axles from an explorer and get the spindles from the front as well... the rims and tires would end up being the most expensive i think

good call on the wheels. haha im mostly interested in the conversion because 5 lug rims are much more common than 4s. if i could find a set of 4 lugs for no more than $150 then id be all set. i guess when you get down to it, a conversion and wheels wouldnt really save me any money.

For the front you can use Lincoln Mark 7 rotors. Just know that some rims you won't be able to use the centercap. Also get two driver side axles from a ranger. If you want to go w/ rear discs you can use an explorer set-up.

ill hit up a couple junkyards and see if i can scrape up some stuff. what parts could i take off a 2nd gen 4 cyl. ranger?

You can get the spindle's (knuckles) with the brake set up and master cylinder and proportioning valve for about 150 if you look around, that's what I'm doing and I was told that upgrading the master cylinder and proportioning will give you a lot more stopping power. And you can find a complete rear end for 150-250... hope that helps

good call on the wheels. haha im mostly interested in the conversion because 5 lug rims are much more common than 4s.

not only are they more common, they have a wider selection of styles... some of which i wish came in a 4 lug conversion so i could enjoy them. my favorite are the bullit style rims with the center cap spike, and the rears GOTTA have the deep dish... that set up looks amazing on a fox body.

for sure. bullitt wheels are sweet. i just found a set of ponys. im tryin to decide if i can afford them even though i dont have any money. XD

If you want to run 94 and newer mustang wheels you will need the SN-95 conversion...Rotors, calipers and spindles. If you want to run weld wheels or aftermarket wheels use the MARK VII rotors. As for the rear...2 right rear axles and drums Is all you need If you want rear disc setup then Sn-95 or MARK VII rears Is the way to go. Keep In mind with the Sn-95 & MARK VII rear set up the wheels will set out 3/4 of an Inch on each side for a total of 1 1/2 Inches. ( Its In the axles...NOT the rear axle ) On my 84 GT convertable I have SN-95 brakes on all 4 corners. Up front With the 84 control arms and Bullitts and they fit like a glove. Out back the wheel lips were rolled. With all stock suspention...2004 Bullitts...and 245-45-ZR17 tires I had no rubbing.

For the complere conversion and a nice set (4) wheels & tires andall the nickle & dime stuff you will need If you go SN-95 or MARK VII your looking at $700-1200 roughly.
If you run the MARK VII front rotors and ranger axles & drums with wheels I would say you will be at $300-600 roughly. If you have any questions feel free to PM me. I have done all 3 conversions.
