I was changing the fluid and filter on my 2000 f-150 4x4 with a 4r70w trans and found this in the pan. What is it? What is it for? And where does it go? what ever it is it appears not to be broken. Any help is much appreciated

I think Larry is right. That looks like the filler tube block off. They prefill some of the unit before they hit the chassis line IIRC the use those to stop spillage before the fill tube is installed.

thats kinda what i thought it was but i couldn't believe it because this trans has 122,000 miles on it. and i popped her cherry last night to find that. i was lookin at it thinking, no fuckin way this is the first filter change. but i guess so! lol
