I have changed the gear ratio in the rear axle and now my speedometer is off. Can the gear that drives the speedometer cable be replaced without dropping the transmission? If so is the speedometer gear accessible threw the cable connection location and will I need to drain the oil first? Thanks :headscrat

depending on how big a change was made in gear ratio you may need to change the gear on the sender unit or the gear on the tialshaft and the sender unit. Both may cuase a small amount of fuild loss depending on the angle of the transmission so I would use a catch to contian fluid.

No your going to have to drop the trans the only way to access the gear to replace is is from the back of the trans. When my speedo drive gear broke they had to take the whole back end of the trans to get to the gear. If you have a chiltons or anything it will show thats what you have to do to access the gear to replace it. But you can see the gear where the cable connects.

depends on what the ratio is you changed to.

It will depend on the ratio you changed to.

I will need: Tire height ( in inches), axle gear ratio.

That way i can tell you what drive and driven you'll need to run.
