to release heat cuz of the thin cyliner walls. its on an area between the cylinders. put a 400 gasket on the head and you will see where

If you need a template I have an old unused GM shim head gasket with the holes to use. I also have a mill that will drill nice and straight if you wanted to do it right.

Hay Scott happy new year. Can use some help doing they's hole's PM me with a good time to do this. Maybe a weekend or even a friday before we go get the kid's from school or which ever send a price also. later Mike

kewl. i take it you found a new block and got it all set up or did ya somehoe work miracles on that one cylinder

The cyclinder was fine, must have been something in the iron. I checked it out with 2 kits, one with a black lite and the other with a die. Nothing showed so I had it cleaned and honed, rebearing'ed and ring'ed it and I just wraped it up tonight. It will run just as good as before, if not faster.

its not because of thin cylinder walls, in fact 400s are thicker then any of the sbc blocks. Its because the cylinders are syamease and there is not coolant all the way around the cylinder.

You only need the steam holes drilled in the heads if your gonna street drive it, but if its gonna be a track rat only, i wouldnt worry about it
