351W Roller Cam Conversion

I am considering a roller cam conversion for a non-roller cam 351W block. Is it as simple as drilling and tapping 2 lifter valley holes and using the 5.0 spider and lifters OR must I use aftermarket hydraulic roller lifters? I am planning to use a Ford Motorsport or 5.0 aftermarket cam.

I used the link bar one for my conversion..It is cheaper to do a solid roller one from what I'm finding out from some buddys helping me learn some stuff about my motor. They make some good streetable solid rollers.

a few freinds have went fast with a solid flat tappet cam, and that is about the cheapest way to get it done... i think nitrousrick uses a flat tappet also...

yes, nitour rick runs a flat tappet. I believe those roller lifters you need to run a hydro in a non roller bloack are like $400??

If you have to machine the block, cant you have inserts put in so you can run a 302 stile roller lifter?

The retro lifters are over $400. To do it without them you need a reduced base circle cam. That method sucks because the H bars pop up sometimes and the lifter turns and destroys everything. The right way to do it is either use a roller block or spend the $400 on lifters.

Solid flat tappet cams work great though, and are very cheap. Some places will sell them to you already broken in.

I've flatten a roller lifter once<not my fault for once>.

I had to use the $400 lifters with my Dart block.
