351w oil pressure issue at running temp.

So it has 45-50psi cold and 0-2psi Warm at idle? Did you use Teflon tape on the gauge fitting or the fitting on the block? Reason I ask is because if that tape gets into the lines it will mess with the readings. If it was bearings you'd assume it would have no pressure cold or warm.

I did use Teflon tape but I was careful to keep the first two threads free from the wrap. I am going to blow out the feed line and remove the tape from the fittings. ill see what happens an post up. also I took it up to a local shop for diagnosis. he hooked his gauge up and got the same series of readings. told me he felt like it was a bearing issue. I am really hoping it is not.

Bearings, is there any metal in the oil? I just screwed together my 302, and with fresh eyes on the bottom end the past couple weeks the only other thing that comes to mind is the oil pump driveshaft? Check the oil pressure gauge line to the back of the gauge, I remember I had one mechanical gauge that leaked a little at the back of the gauge in the IP. (needed another compression fitting), didn't realize it because oil was clear.

I'll keep brainstorming

.010 main bearing clearance? That's not going to work! Or do u mean .001 clearance?

What's rod bearing clearance?

Try a different oil filter

Check oil pump, and pickup. Clearance to bottom of pan?

I sent a message to the Guy I bought the car from in trying to obtain the build sheet from the machine shop or even a receipt of the work that was done. when I text him last all he said was bearings have. 010 . his responce was unclear and have been trying to contact him ever since. hopefully he's just on vacation for the forth and isn't blowing me off. as for the filter I replaced it with a fram. anybody have any pros /cons about fram oil filters? the pan is the standard Ford motorsport 351 in a fox swap pan. not sure of what pick-up tube was used as I'm awaiting a response from the previous owner.

get rid of the fram

so it has been a long day and I was mistaken in my last posts. my Thunderbird is running a fram but the 351 mustang in question is running a K&N oil filter. is this a quality filter? anyone know of pressure drop using a k&n filter?

I would be very surprised if you hear back from this guy. I HOPE he meant the crank was cut .010, not that much clearance. There is no good answer to your problem. The only way you will ever be able to be sure is to pull it down. If you keep running it, and it IS jacked up, you will just add to the damage. Sad but true.

he told me when I baught the car that amcar said the crank was within speck. I'm hoping he ment .001 as well.

have another gauge to try? KN are good filters

I took it to a shop last week and he ran his gauge with the same results. I figure the k&n would be a decent filter but picked up a wix today to see if their was any difference. my gut says worst case scenario on my hands.

I had a pump come loose. I had no PSI at any temp. I pulled the dist and with the priming tool you could feel the pump move.
