i have a set of 351w heads and was wondering what would need top be done to them to install them on a '89 5.0. the car has a set of newer 351w heads on it now from a e150 van roller motor. or should i sell the 351w heads and get a set of gt40p heads?

What casting 351w head? All of them will bolt up but if they're not an early set it's not worth the trouble. If it's an early set make sure they have hardend valve seats, if not you should run a lead additive. If they're in bolt on shape it can be worth a little, if you have to spend any money on them look for a used aftermarket head.

the casting says dooe. i was told there from a '70 351w. i got them with the car. dont have the cash for aluminum heads right now. im redoing the body on it also right now.

You need special head bolts that feature the 7/16 thread, but have the 1/2 shank (we stock them). I wouldn't use the gt40p over them just because of header fitment issues...

Do they have the factory push in studs or did someone set them up for screw in studs already? If you can bolt them on and go they'll work ok. If they need a valve job, guides, valve seats, valves etc it won't be worth it. Shop around for a nice used aftermarket head.(aluminum or cast)

yeah the bushings are like $40 from summit if i recall. i have aluminum GT40 heads on my car that have 1/2" holes for a 351w and i used the bushings.

How much are the arp 7/16 head bolts? Just curious where you end up after doing both. I used to go the one piece route also when I had a 302, I wasn't a fan of the washer set up.

39.99 for the head bolts, plus 38 for the washers. I also dislike the washer setup, the stepped bolt just seems alot stronger, plus its their pro-series material, so way better clamping...

A member on here has a 100% stock bottom end 302 with d00E Windsor heads, 10.5.1 Compression, and he goes 11.70's on motor. He uses the washers. I have seen those d00E heads run way faster then gt40's.
