fuck stock blocks im done with them if you want to make any real power with a 8.2 deck motor and have it live get a good block first by the time you put a good rotating assemby in there and break it the cost of a good block is worth it i learned this slowly 2 stock 5.0 blocks and 1 sportsman b50 block :icon_mrgr
you should talk to wheelz, they have a class in the south he was telling me about that one of his customers run in, you have to run a stock block...he said there is a guy down there that sprays his stock block with 700...and has been 5.1s in the 1/8th mile...thats about 8.30s in the 1/4...

LOL, crazy ass hillbillys!! that for sure is hauling the mail!

If you are considering a block, then why even bother with a 302 based engine? Save yourself the aggrevation and build a 351 based engine, 408, 418, etc. You can find early production blocks pretty cheap and they'll hold way more power than any production 302 block. Also, if this is a street car, it will make more torque with less rpm. just some food for thought.

I thought about that. there is a 408 kit for sale on here for 1200.00 cast or cast steel crank in the kit I would perfer a steel crank how do you guys feel about steel or cast

are the sportsman blocks any good and what do they cost. if I went for a 351 what year block would be a good one? early or newer style.

If you are going the 351 based route, and want to use a OEM block, I would look for a 69'. As for the sportsman, if you are refering to a 302 or B50 block, save your money and get the real deal from DART. To be honest, you have to get either one machined, be it a stock block or a DART block, so I guess its up to you, whether or not you want to spend your hard earned money on a block that will someday not support the power you are going to want to put through it. I would just save your money, buy a 9.5 deck, 4.125 bore Dart block, and have fun without worries. :icon_mrgr
