I'm curious what some good 31 splines will take in a car thats about 3000lbs, 60 ft wise?

Stick car no less..

Am I being un-reasonable by hoping they'll do 1.40's

scott said 31 splines would work in my 4000lb 6 speed and I go 1.4's( was looking at a 9 Inch)
I use 33's in my 12 bolt

sure why not? people have been 8s with 31 spline stuff, back in the early sso days thats all they had....transbreak is just as hard as a stick shift is, still shocks the rearend

and i do know of a few people that have been 1.3s with stock axles and a stick shift for a few years too. finally broke one this year

since I broke my locker in half some how at lapeer, it now has a31 spline trac loc with added clutches to each side.

I just don't want it to break in the spring, its apart now so I figured if I needed better axles mind as well do it now. Its allready got 9" ends and some good 31 splines.. so i'll leave it alone.

Thanks guys

scott said a locker would break first pass in mine. He recommended a spool or tru trac

I might be switching to a spooled 9 inch cause I can't get the 12 bolt to live

Seems to be a bit vodooish. Some guys go 1.28's some guys can't go faster then 1.45. I'd bet wheel hop is the real culprit behind the alxe breakage. I don't care if you have 100 spline 3inch OD axles. Wheel hop a car hard enough and they snap like twigs.

The opinions below seem valid enough.

The 31 spline axles in my car came out of Jsalvatos old Renegade car that went 9.20's (and 60' on the back bumper). He never had any issues, just stepped his shit up for next year.

I have junk fms 31 spline truck axles in my car. I've gone a best of 1.38 and the car sits right around 3k. I've had those 60's with both the stick and the auto.

coo, that makes me feel safer...

You gunna bring that thing out next year, i'd like to line 'em up for shits and giggles..

rick will be cruising oxford with raj and I. I know of another white stang that wants to run raj. They even live on the same road

Ford 9". 31 spline Strange axle. 10 psi off the trans brake. 1.4X 60' time. A little V-6 did this. I would step up to 35 or 40's.

You'll be fine unless you get a lot of wheel hop. I kept breaking FMS axles and then ran Mosers with no problems. That's launching at 7,000 - 7,600 rpm in a stick car at 3,150lbs.

I have been consistant 1.3x's with 31 spline axles, and a best of 1.33. My car does weigh in at 3000lbs with me in it, and it is a stick car. I leave the line at 7000+RPM and they seem to be holding up. I will continue to use them until the next major engine change.
