31, 33 or 35 spline?

which would you prefer or recommend? same price for all. i have read that the 35 spline size weakens the carrier. by reducing the metal in that area. but i know there are some fast cars with them

whatever, just looking for thoughts before i order.

A friend had 35's in his car and it had problems chewed up the splines in the spool and on the axles.

went to a 33 no problems anymore..

edit:

These were off the shelf like mosers or whatever.. in a custom axle application I'm sure the build would recomend for your power level, weight and trans chose

How many splines do you need to cruise Telegraph?

In what application? I ran a 35 spline spool with a 3.062 bore 9 inch case for years and ran it into the high 8's off a trans brake.

Anthony- I was told to stay with 33's, due to the strength of other components. They seem to work just fine. The only way you'll break a 33 is wheelhop, and that can break a 40 almost as easy.

The 33's seem to hold fine for going quicker than you :)

33's won't stress the carrier bearings as much but the 33's are not as strong. Also the Moser 35 spline carrier has more spline engagment to compensate for the reducded bearing support area. They are supporting the bearing collaring area with the spline of the axle. The 35 spline from moser has been 7.40 IIRC.

Hi Anthony,

If you go 35s get the spool from MWs. Theirs is a little different spline placement so it is thicker where it needs to be. If you don't go with MW I would go 33.

Call MW and discuss with them...if you do, ask for Travis.

BTW, I have 35s and they built my whole rear.

I have strange 33 axlesin my car nowI had 31 for 9 years and never broke them. i think 33 will work just fine for you.
