306, 331, or 347 - Which one?

I built a 306 last year. If your gonna drive it don't waste money on cubes you wont use. Use your stock crank, get a good set of eagle rods and 11:1 pistons. You can use your heads cam and intake and on pump gas you will be very close to where you want to be. If you are on a budget that will be a very good set up that will last for years. If you start changing too much stuff you will spend all your money and your car will be in the garage sale section being parted out......

I can't wait to see how horribly my 347 runs next to your 331 with the better rod ratio. 😀

I have finished reworking the rest of the cylinders. I am going to blow your doors off with my 10liter! We should move this to the grudge section...

Garage sale section??? You must have seen my car because that’s a great idea! I added it up and it is definitely worth more in parts that it is in one piece!

As a side note, I am probably going to run the questionable short block I have and hope it doesn't put me in the poor house with all the oil I will need to feed it! The stroker build will need to wait a little while longer. I just can't bring myself to spend ANOTHER $2000 on this car. I probably have $10,000 into a $5000 car as it is! LOL

We are all in the same boat my friend give or take a few zeros LOL

so theres tons of them out. just find one....i think someone just posted a roller short block in the forsale section for 450

I cleaned up the 302 I have - honed the cylinders, polished he crank, replaced the rings and bearings. Should be okay for a little while. I calculated about 9.6:1 compression. I am running 1.7 rockers so I will have about .529 lift. I should be in the neighborhood of 325-340 HP when everything is said and done. Not a supercar but not too shabby either. Besdies, this car is going to be more for handleing than quarter mile anyway.

I like the idea of a 351 and may end up going in that direction. I also have another 302 short block that I might use for a stroker. More of a money thing at this point. I have 3 other project cars I am working on. And I didn't have an engine build planned for this one. As I mentioned, I have way too much into this car as it is. I still need to paint it when it gets warmer.

As for the comment you quoted, a friend of mine has one that he just wants to get rid of - for free. It is a complete long block. He has 6 engines for 2 cars including a 450hp-ish 347 & 2 coyotes (one is a boss engine too). He is tired of looking at it and just wants to make some room in his garage. 82Hatch has first dibs on it. Although he was supposed to pick it up a couple weeks ago. If he waits too long someone might swoop in and grab it! LOL

400-450 hp out of a 306 with gt40 heads and an E cam? That line will work perfect for a Craigslist ad, but in all reality you'll be flirting with about 340hp on a good day.

The 450HP engine mentioned in my post isn't mine. That one is my friend's, the one who has the two coyotes and the the 351. That engine is a high compression balanced 347. Pretty wicked engine to put it mildly.

Mine, the 306 (actually a 302) with X heads and an E cam I am hoping for 325 to 340 out of. I think you got my post confused. But, trust me, when I pull it out to sell it on crag's list it will be a 500HP monster!!! LOL
