302 vs 350

Short and sweet version* I am the first out my friends to have a "cool" car. One is doing a 3rd gen v6 to 350 swap, and another just got a 91 Camaro. I would like to.. and of course as I am writing this my friend writes "mustangs are slow" as the status of our mumble server as he gets off... Point made, I need to stay ahead of them this summer, I can't choose what would be better a mod, compared to these 3rd gens. One is a carb setup, which I am not worried about. The newly bought 91 has aluminum heads, roller rockers and I think full exhaust, 20inch rims.

Should I be ok running mid 13's on street tires??
Mods include - Lt's Xpipe, Trickflow intake, Short throw, 3.27's.

I have gone low 13.2's @ 102.5 with slicks(still trying to iron it out)

I want to tune with quarter-horse, and tunerpro, then get a nitrous cam, either compcams/anderson.
Or should I do my clutch pack in the 8.8 with 3.73's??

Thanks

I'd just change the rear end gear and put 75-100hp to it anyways. Forget changing that cam. To much work for not enough results, if that's all your going to change.

3.73s and throw a 100 at it. like camaroman said i wouldnt touch the cam until you get a set of heads, or until you plan on rebuilding the motor. just my opinion though

put 16" wheels on it and you'll probably shave a half second off without doing anything else.

IMO, you made the right choice. :)

X2 and like lucky7 said...get some normal wheels on it also.....draglights/rodlights or stocks

I think he is saying his friend is the one with the 91 camaro on 20s.. Soooo if its his friend, he should keep those wheels on, it will kill his 60fts lol.

What's he doing for the 350? If he's just dropping the obligitory truck 350 in it it'll be a turd. I doubt you have to do anyhting to beat either of them :)

just wwaiting for someone to tell us how we are all wrong and how his mustangs junk and the 350 will kill it..........wait for it......

haha i`m surprised we had to wait this long........a turd 350 is still way better then a junk 302........lets put a 100 shot on the 350 and gears and see what happens......

Tim is right. There's a reason why all Foxes have blowers or juice... Because they need it to keep up with Camaros. ;-)

Do it once and go with a 4.10.... freeway RPMS with your 5 speed wont be bad at all.. Less than 3k.. My mark vii pulls like 2800 @ 70mph.

4.10's would be fun, but I would like some room for a 351 later on, and its also my main summer driver. The carb'd 350 shouldn't be anything to right home about, its just sitting in a donor car.. doesn't even know if its a 305.. :S I'm just worried about the 350 with aluminum heads, potential cam and unknown gears. I've just never been around 3rd gens, always turbo buicks or mustangs.

You're young and have a pretty cool car. Build it as much as you can / can afford and have fun with it. There's always going to be somebody who's faster so try not to get caught up in the inevitable one-up contest. 3.73 vs 4.10 won't make that much of a difference though 1st gear with the 4.10s will be pretty short/useless. Just have fun with whatever you do.

Absolutely. A little friendly competition between friends can be fun, as long as you keep it reasonable. There is ALWAYS somebody who is faster/quicker.

I've had mustangs with 2.73, 3.08, 3.55, 3.73 & 4.10 gears...and you will likely find the 4.10 has a useless first gear on the street. I've got a 2.95 first gear and it was still useless (unless you're running a taller tire (something over 26") and/or the car is strip only with tires that hook). I prefer a 3.73 for a decent all around gear in mine.

Let us know how it all turns out.
