$250,000 fancy garages filling up fast in Pontiac

National Corvette Museum's new track in Kentucky is going through some major noise complaint issues with local residents and city council. The plant, museum, and track are pretty much the only things bringing in revenue to the area and the residents (who live right next to the freeway) are putting up a major stink about construction and track noise. They've threatened to shut the track down a number of times. Let's hope that the same thing doesn't happen in Pontiac.

California is especially bad. Laguna Seca is 92 db limit on regular days. What cars are even below that? Certainly nothing fun. And they know Joe Schmoe isn't paying $35k for one of a handful of sound unlimited days.

I tried to rent Thunder Hill but the track people knew some of our loud guys already. Limit was 102 db. There's one dickhead that seriously lives like 4-5 miles away that incessantly complains and the track was basically doing everything to convince me they didn't want us there. Sad.

If you get a couple stock GT350Rs or C7 Z06s, let alone all the loud shit around here, running around a block or two from Woodward at sustained WOT, I just don't have any degree of optimism.

I always get a kick out of the special exhausts people make so they can run at the tracks with really low DB levels, you can always tell what side of the track the DB reader is on lol.

My parents live a few miles from Nazareth Raceway, when Indycar and USAC was in town, the sound carried across the valley to their house on a hillside. It carried a long way. The track is now gone, but it was a sweet sound while it lasted.

All these people bitching about noise need to fuck off and our judicial system panders to them more than they should. When the planes leaving San Diego have to throttle back over a neighborhood and dip an uncomfortable amount (been there, it's odd), things have gone too far.
What's next, complaining about the smell of the dairy farm you decided to buy a house next to? How do landfills get away with smells and tracks have sound issues?

Grew up in a farm town. City people started to move to the area and complain about the smell of manure, etc. Subdivision was built on a dirt road and hte city people didn't like the dirt road so they went to the township board to get the road paved to the next nearest paved road. The origanal locals weren't too pleased when they had to pay the assessment for the paved road they didn't want originally.

Another one is the Kalamazoo Speedway which is in Alamo township. A few years ago, there were a select few people who moved within a few miles of it and tried to basically shut it down by putting decibel limits after something like 6 or 7 o'clock in the evening. It's a 3/8" oval that racing starts at 7ish and has been for I don't even know how many decades. Not to mention, the speedway is basically the only thing bringing anybody to that township.

SAME exact thing is happening to Onodaga Dragway right now, a couple douche bag neighbors are complaining about noise and the track has now been closed for 2-3 years after the owners domped a TON of money into it to get it re-opened after closing for something like 35 years.
 
This is crazy! Can't someone, find a reasonable place somewhere, where a track
can be built where sensitive ears won't try to kill it?

I follow them on Facebook. It doesn't seem too hopeful that they are going to be able to open from the little I have seen.

I grew up 1.5 miles as the crow flies from the Martin dragstrip and we, nor anybody I know, complained about it. You can even hear the dirt bikes from the motocross track
 
Track owners need to go to township boards and get laws past saying that the establishment has been here for "x" years, and that anyone who moves in the area, or builds in the area must sign a waiver saying they understand that long time tax paying business, paying way more than they ever will, has pre standing agreements about noise levels.
 
^^^ That is one of the things that a “sellers real estate discloser statement form”
is suppose to cover. In other words, you are informed of environmental
“issues” in an area of a home you are considering purchasing / living at.

Fat chance. People get a chip on their shoulders and go on witch hunts. Some raised a big stink about concerts at Freedom Hill being too loud some years back. I lived 1/2 a mile away at the time and couldn't hear them. The concerts were stopped for a year or two, and they have been doing them since. I now live 3 miles away and can hear them plain as day on some nights. I don't complain though, because it's not loud enough to hear inside of my house. FWIW, a rock concert is typically 115dB, which is 8 times louder than the track mentioned above with the 92dB limit.

Seems like the Waterford track had issues.....even though it was built before the people by it
 
Hey Guys,

I am one of the developers of M1. We are on schedule to open track on June 1st. We have already had public hearings with the City of Pontiac/residents about the facility and have been approved. What most people do not understand is this is not a race track. We are building this track as a marketing/testing facility for OEMs/Tier 1 suppliers. As a benefit to our garage owners they can use the track during designated hours we have set aside during the week. We will also be opening a driving school and having open track days for the public.

Wow, that is cool. Drive by there all the time. Glad to see it go to good use and really happening. I hope to visit someday.
