$250,000 fancy garages filling up fast in Pontiac

That's pretty awesome. Says he has mores phases to come. Hopefully he will build a strip. Maybe now that people see there is a serious car following around here someone else will try to capitalize on it and build a strip. Shit maybe I'll go ask Obama for a grant. Lol.

im sure most guys that have car collections needing a "car condo" dont care about a drag strip...Thats actually not a bad price if your into the hobby. Get like 4-5 guys to go in one one, cost you $50,000 each to buy....and have a place to store and work on your car.

What I was saying if they can do this why cant we do a drag strip

the Pontiac Bus/Train station is right around the corner they have been kicking ass on this since last summer

as for a Drag Strip ... the answer I always hear is ,,, you have Milan

I heard there will be room for a dragstrip eventually which would be wonderful for the area

Since I first heard of this a few years ago I keep thinking (dreaming)
It would be so nice to have a more everyday-kinda-guy affordable
version of this!

"The concept behind M1 Concourse is to create a place where deep-pocketed car buffs can store,
show off and test-drive high-end vehicles and socialize with those who share their passion."

* All 80 car condos in Phase I sold out last year.
* 20 of the 50 Phase II condos are still available.
* A typical condo costs $250,000.
* The 1.5-mile performance track opens in June; a grand opening is set for during the Woodward Dream Cruise.
* Project could hit $60-million investment and 260 total units with future Phase III and IV.
* Federal-Mogul Motorparts (Champion spark plugs) will be the track's official sponsor.

"It's a place to enjoy your car — no potholes, no cops,"

I work directly across the street (corner of rapid and franklin) so I get to look at it every day, im pretty amazed on how quickly the project is moving along.

For $50K I get to share a garage with 4 other guys??? I've shared space before. Back when I was younger and more forgiving. It rarely works out.

I planned ahead when I built my house. It took me 10 years, but I put up a heated 30X48 garage I don't have to share with anyone. Would I like it to be on a track?
Sure, but I'm happier that it's 150 feet from my living room.

I guess I just have not learned to think like the uber-wealthy. The reason for this is obvious.

It's not a ton of space, iirc it's under 1200ft^2 for 150k, for the space, plus whatever it costs for the build out, you pay business taxes on the space, plus association fees.... Minimum. I'm thinking me a and 3 buddies wrenching on our cars with occasional garage burnouts are not the clientele they are looking for.

I'd be all over it if I were baller, but that's not the case, and still would pull a few garage burnouts.

I drive by the site daily on my way to work, the buildings are going up fast.

I think it's good that it's getting off the ground quickly, and the concept has worked elsewhere. Anything that gets more people doing more car stuff is good. Detroit needs more car-themed stuff, period.

I'm still a skeptic about the long term prospects of the performance track. Race tracks suffer from severe NIMBY (not in my back yard) syndrome. I've rented race tracks from coast to coast and it's always a non-stop clusterfuck because of the hassle race tracks get dealing with residents and local government the moment the loud noises start. And that's out in cow country. Put houses and businesses a 9-iron away and the aggravation will likely begin immediately. But hopefully Detroit being Detroit, people won't be such a pain in the ass.

National Corvette Museum's new track in Kentucky is going through some major noise complaint issues with local residents and city council. The plant, museum, and track are pretty much the only things bringing in revenue to the area and the residents (who live right next to the freeway) are putting up a major stink about construction and track noise. They've threatened to shut the track down a number of times. Let's hope that the same thing doesn't happen in Pontiac.
