I'm currently in the Chrysler debate in another forum. Here's my standard response
Wife works for Chrysler. Over the past 7 years we've had:
(her) 2007 Dodge Charger SXT V6
Pretty meh. Not fast, not exciting, looked OK. Ate tires and the front suspension was replaced under warranty.
(father in law) 2007 Dodge Ram Hemi Quad Cab 4x4
Bought new, owned it for 75k miles and 5 years, zero problems, great truck
(me) 2007 Jeep Cherokee SRT8
bought used with 20k on it. Had to replace front tires immediately (excessive camber wears the insides prematurely). Fun, pretty damn fast, stopped and handled amazingly. Interior was cheap and plastic bullshit and not up to par for the rest of the vehicle and the price. I got it for $24,000 and sold it 2 years later for $26,000 though
(her) 2010 Dodge Ram Big Horn Quad Cab Hemi 4x4
Front bumper replaced for pitting in the chrome, no other issues, great truck
(me) 2012 Dodge Journey
Leased it for three years. Zero problems. Base model (SXT) with the V6. Not very exciting, but good for what I needed.
(father in law) 2012 Dodge Ram Laramie Hemi Quad Cab
Very nice truck. Too much chrome for my tastes, but zero issues
(mother in law) 2012 Jeep Cherokee V6
Nice vehichle ,good lease price, no issues
(her) 2012 Dodge Durango R/T
absolutely the best vehicle we've owned. Zero problems, great engine, great interior, killer looks
(me) 2014 Dodge Charger R/T
2 year lease for $220/mo. Fast, fun, reliable. No problems. Interior was light years nicer than the previous generation.
(her) 2015 Chrysler 300S
Nice looking, nice interior, monster sunroof, etc... but the 8 speed trans sucks. Hunts all over the place, especially at lower speeds. Feels like driving a stick with a 16 year old girl. Ruins the car, IMHO.
(mother in law) 2015 Jeep Cherokee V6
Same as her last one. Nice truck, no issues
So, overall with what, 11 vehicles in the immediate family over the past 7 years... our only complaints were really the front suspension in the 2007 Charger and the trans in the 2015 300S....
Prior to being with my wife, I have owned an assortment of vehicles including
1989 Chrysler Conquest TSi
1991 Dodge Spirit R/T
1994 Camaro Z28
1991 Dodge Dakota V6
1994 Toyota pickup 4x4
1991 Toyota 4Runner
1999 Jeep Cherokee Sport
1997 Jeep Cherokee Sport
1985 Toyota pickup 4x4
1993 Ford Mustang GT
1982 Toyota pickup 4x4
And I still own my 1994 Toyota Landcruiser
I currently buy/lease Chrysler products because they are VASTLY improved from the 90s/2000s and they are nice for the money that I pay and I have had ZERO problems with the ones that I have bought and/or leased over the past 7 years.. I also like Toyota 4x4s. I have owned several as my fun vehicle while buying/leasing new Chryslers. I work on my Toyotas, I play with them. They are occasionally down for weeks at a time while I do stuff. So I need something safe, reliable and affordable to drive my kids in. Hence the Chryslers.
If my wife DIDN'T work for Chrysler and I didn't get the deals... I would probably be looking at a Focus ST, tbqhwy. Although that changes all of the time. I don't have any particular brand loyalty or blind hatred for any brand. A good car is a good car. I just go with Chryslers because they fit my requirements, lifestyle and budget. Simple, really. If they really WERE giant pieces of shit and not reliable, I wouldn't be buying them. But, again, with three (now four) Chryslers in my name over the past 7 years... not one of them has spent a single day in the shop.
But the Chrysler hate from OT is founded, perhaps understandably so, in outdated opinions from the garbage that they put out while under Mercedes ownership. They are a MUCH improved company.
