My brother just leased a 2014 GMC Terrain earlier today. He got one with the V6 engine and AWD. The two dealers he went to could not find one with a trailer hitch in the color he wanted. So he got one with the color he wanted. Now two people from the dealer (Ed Rinke) told him that the trailer hitch has to be installed at the factory. Are the people from right? When you go onto GMC's build your own vehicle web site. It list two different options. One is a trailering equipment option for $450. A second option hitch trailering package for $305. What do these packages contain? Why two different options? Why do they have to be factory installed? Thank you for your time.

I picked up a used 2010 AWD Equinox (same platform as the terrain). I found a hitch for sale on here that bolted right up. Picked up a wiring kit (plugs right into taillights so no splicing). And I am all set. No issues, no worries. The trucks have the weldnuts in place on the frame for the hitch package. I am guessing maybe one is the small receiver and one is the regular 2.5" receiver. I got the 2.5" one so I can tow my utility trailer and it works great.
