2014 - 15 Lions Discussion Thread

I still maintain that Mayhew needs to go. His decision making rivals what Millen did, the only difference being the talent worked well together. I don't like a lot of his picks, especially this past year when they took a TE and left the best OL available on the table in the first round. They better stock up on lineman on both sides of the ball come 2015 if they expect to challenge anyone in the long run.

Matt dery said the exact same thing today. Referenced Dallas that drafted 3 OL's and all are pro bowlers

I think he is above average, but not great. Not yet. I think the talent is there. Not sure what it's going to take to get him to the next level though. He's the fastest player in NFL history to 20,000 yards and he's one of 5? QBs ever to surpass 5000 yards in a season. He's just unpolished, I guess? The guy has an absolute cannon for an arm and the touch to make a lot of throws that other QBs could never make

Big fucking deal....typical "slappy" argument when it comes to this clown. No points for most yards in this league. We pay this bust (yes, bust) too much to be avg. He's been in the league long enough....what you see is what you get. "Heave and hope" to a beast in Johnson to pad the stats, inconsistency when it counts and what's worse is that we get to see the same mediocrity for a few more years.....

Did you even watch the game on Sunday? He couldn't hit water falling out of a boat for the first half.....(pssst, Matt....it's the playoffs....it's ok to make a throw to an open receiver). Hope he took notes watching Aaron's one-legged effort....

Rolling hard to the left and he slings this in on a rope. I don't know of anybody else who makes this throw:
d2ytX8A.gif

Maybe 75% of NFL QB's?

He can't win, doesn't know how to win, will put our current receiving core into retirement WITHOUT being a legit contender past week 16 and will be the Achilles heal of this team during his tenor. But hey, he was one of five QBs to make it to 5000 yards in a season. HOLD A SPOT FOR HIM CANTON!!

Yea that side arm bullshit does him more bad then good, I think out of 10 times he threw it, twice was successful.... And one of those times are posted here with the Miami Goldfish...
Staffords stats are getting worse, not better as the years go on.... I don't see "much" improvement with him.... If the Fords wanna pay him as a top 10 highest paid NFL player well then he's gonna laugh all the way to the bank and party like a rock star.....you go boy!

LOL, so much hate from "fans" who had the worst team in NFL history just 3 short years ago and is now going to the playoffs. I mean, LITERALLY, THE WORST TEAM EVER IN THE HISTORY OF THE NFL... Is now 11-5 and in the playoffs. Lots (most) QBs struggle at Lambeau in the winter months.

Will you all be back on the wagon if they beat Dallas?

And "a bust?" Seriously? That's absurd. Again, he's the fastest QB ever. EVER to 20,000 yards. He's a 24 year old kid who inherited the worst team in the league and now has them in the playoffs. You guys are insane

JaMarcus Russell is a bust
Rex Grossman is a bust
Matt Leinert is a bust
Tim Tebow is a bust
Ryan Leaf is a bust
Brady Quinn is a bust

Matt Stafford is not a bust

Oh Mike, get off the whole bandwagon bullshit. The majority of us have been Lions fans our entire life. I want them to be great, I want them to win, I want Stafford to be elite. But he's not. If anything you're such a slappy you can't see through all the hype and bullshit you're fed to see them as they really are.

You sure do blow Stafford an awful lot for a QB who has done *nothing*. Hasn't won a big game on the road, hasn't won a playoff game, ect ect. There is a big difference over the guys I listed to your boy Stafford, THEY HAVE PROVEN THEMSELVES! Lets wait until he wins a playoff game to claim that he's better than most in the league.

You can't be reasoned with. Fill up another glass of the Honolulu blue koolaid!

LOL, OK. Because I have a different opinion, I'm the one who can't be reasoned with?

I love how you guys go out on a limb and think you're supreme football knowledge icons by picking the last 4-5 Super Bowl winning QBs and saying that Stafford isn't on their level. Genius!

You guys probably think Jim Kelly and Dan Marino were busts too. I mean, they never won a single Super Bowl. Just put up big numbers that don't mean anything, right? Couldn't win the big game....

It's not shocking that a person who can't be reasoned with (and that has been pointed out several times now) would become defensive that they are the most reasonable person on the planet. If it's just a differing opinion, then why can't anyone else have one? Or as a reasonable person, are you the only one who is allowed to have opinions? lol

LOL, nah. Everybody can have an opinion, no matter how wrong you are. I have gotten plenty of rep points from people who don't necessarily post agreeing with me

But yeah, when you have a team that was 0-16 just a few years ago that is now going to the playoffs, led by a QB who has record setting numbers... and you guys are calling for his head (without being able to offer a plausible improvement option, naturally) it's pretty goddamn stupid

You keep bringing up the fact that the Lions went winless and are now in the Playoffs like the turn around is amazing and shocking. The Lions went winless in 2008. That was 6 years ago. Average contract lengths for non star players is 3 year deals. Star players get the long term ones typically. Taking into account the time frame of 6 years, the Lions have had two contract cycles to get their house in order to recover from the 0-16 record. On top of that, the NFL isn't affected as heavily by bad records as say college where the players get a choice where they go. In Pro, it's all about draft and contract negotiations, so an 0-16 year may affect how some players would view the option of going there (Outside of their rookie year), but it wouldn't kill a franchise. Looking further at the ebb and flow of the league, you're further proven wrong on your shock and awe experiment by looking at a team like the NY Giants. They won the SB in the 2011 season. It's only been 3 years since then and they have fallen apart in every way shape and form since. More proof that the waves at which teams fluctuate from being good (Granted the giants in 2011 were a strange anomaly for winning the SB) to bad is a short span as opposed to a long term turnaround.

All of that to say, you're designation that this team is something special because it took only 6 years to get to the playoffs after going winless is wrong. It would be more correct to say "It took them 6 years to get back to the playoffs?" with the inflection applied to the number 6. Again, I know you don't deal in facts as the blinders are strong on you, but hopefully someday you can come to the realization that the Lions are getting better, but they are a real QB away from taking that next step.

But but but.... They have Eli Manning!? Thought he was better than Stafford? How can this be possible?

Please tell me, Swifster-lite, where I said they were "special" or anything of the sort? You taking his moves now...where you make wild inferences out of practically nowhere and pass it off as something I actually said? Again, I'll wait... I'm waiting for you to verify the statements you say that I made

Out of all of that, the only thing you get out of it was Eli Manning sucks... And you wonder why people say you're not reasonable.

Eli is likely better than Stafford. If he had the receiving core that Stafford has I'm sure it'd show. I have an employee who is a huge Giants fan. It was fun beating them. That being said, he thinks Eli is the weak cog for the Giants and compares him to Stafford as a comparison on why the Giants just need a better QB.

This is just too rich. You accuse me of playing word games for implying what you said, while you're in the process of implying what I said and making dogmatic statements about them. Again, I give up. You're completely unreasonable and a waste of time to argue with. You're so blind to reality that you give Michigan fans a bad name and make Lions fans look moronic. I'll continue to live in the realm of reality where the Lions make the playoffs once every 10 years until proven otherwise. You can keep telling us how Harbaugh is a bad hire and how the Lions will win the Super Bowl.... WAIT! You're that idiot that got the Lions Superbowl 2015 tattoo aren't you? This explains so much.

Is this where you play swifter word games and say "well, I didn't say that they need to get rid of him RIGHT now errr derrrr

You pretty clearly seem to think Stafford is the only thing holding this team back. Your own words, they are "a good quarterback away"

So, again, tell me who's better and available?

There you go again. I never said that Harbaugh was a bad hire. I basically said that they needed to shit or get off the pot and that IF he didn't want to come to Michigan, they should move on. Yes, there are things that I don't like about him and there are things I do like about him. I've been very clear about that. I'm beginning to question your ability to read for comprehension. Like, you can read the words, but struggle to understand what they actually mean when arranged in a sentence?

And yes...multiple times I have pointed out that this Lions franchise that has struggled on a historically bad level for the past decade has now made the playoffs. That's improvement. I never said or implied it means that they are surely Super Bowl bound this year. You honestly cannot comprehend that?

PS, please cite an example where I took any liberties in implying something you said?

I'll wait for that while I also wait for you to show me
1. Where I said the Lions where anything more than a playoff team
2. A viable option for the Lions to improve at quarterback over Stafford? You've been avoiding that for pages. Unless you have a solution, you're just a whiny little women complaining for the sake of complaining without any ideas on how to make things better
