2012 regal gs

I know they have, and it's pitiful. It's fucked when a company is so big and so "planted" in one place. Everyone around them puts ALL of their eggs in the same basket and puts ultimate faith in whatever that big company is. Then you get a bunch of thick-headed idiots that believe what they are making is "better" than everyone else, when the reality is that they're producing absolute shit, and nobody is questioning it. Then because a select few have no real idea of what the fuck they're actually doing, the decisions they make completely fuck everyone that is tied into the system. Perhaps my desire to see failure stems from having absolutely ZERO respect for General Motors, and for as long as I can remember. The most fucked part about all the bailouts is the fact that we learn it is alright according to our government to do a shit job, and then be rewarded for it. I think it's one of those situations where people are so fucking dense that they need shit to hit the fan before they "get it". Of course I don't want to see the entire midwest in the shit, but you and I both know that shit isn't going to change, and history always repeats itself. If I remember correctly, this wasn't Chryslers first bailout. The shit infuriates me.

I think you need to do a little reading on both GM and Chrysler. GM realized the problem years ago and brought in Bob Lutz to turn the ship around. Hummer and Saab were both for sale before the collapse. Chrysler was run into the ground by two management groups that refused to invest in the product. And neither of these groups are involved with the company now. Chrysler had a large war chest of over $9B as a 'rainy day' fund. Daimler swallowed that cash. And make no mistake, Ford was almost right there with them. Want to blame someone? Blame the government for continuing to move the targets such as CAFE, safety and so forth. Do you think a 56 MPG CAFE requirement allows for a secure auto industry?

If you are against the bailouts that occured before you were born, and the current ones, you must want to live in a third world country. There would be no railroads, no airlines and no manufacturing, and you'd be stuffing all your money in your mattress. Nice!!! Haul out your horse and buggy...

That's not at all true. Look at all the companies that aren't run like train wrecks. It's not my fault our part of the country has almost zero diversity. I'll have to look into Lutz's reign, because nothing stands out.

And if you're so "pro-bailout," why even try doing anything well? Big brother is going to save your ass regardless.

Clearly there can't be total elimination of the US auto industry. But at the same time someone needs to take ownership. According to most of you, their very nearly going under was not their fault. And that's just plain rediculous.

In a lot of ways, it's not. If you are profitable selling trucks and gas goes from $2.25 to $4.25 over the course of months, how well will trucks sell. Even Toyota's trucks went into the tank. We have a unique market. Well sell a lot of trucks (because the government outlawed large cars via CAFE). Americans aspire to own larger vehicles than little shit boxes. This isn't Europe or Japan. The Republicans deregulated how fuel is sold on the market when Bush hit office. Gas was $1.26. Isn't the FREE market wonderful? This was their way of getting people to buy the small cars they don't want. Democrats use CAFE. This has been a failure too.

Japan and Korea tax the crap out of our cars if we try to import into their countries. We open our arms and let them illegally dump cars for less than cost (Infiniti, Lexus, Acura) so they could take sales from Cadillac, Lincoln, BMW, Mercedes, Buick, Mercury and Chrysler. Our government has tied their hands and is trying to continue to do it.

Yes, GM was mismanaged from the early 1970's on. When they brought in Lutz, he had to change the entire bloated process. Go get his book and read about it. He was doing a lot of work on Pontiac, Buick and Saturn. Pontiac and Saturn had some good products when the axe fell (I'd love to find a nice Solstice).

Chrysler was the fair haired child in the 1990's. They had a large bank account, had good products and that asshole Eaton sold the whole shooting match to Daimler. Chrysler actually propped up Daimler when Mercedes was losing their ass. And as payback, they stopped any meaningful investment. Then they sold Chrysler off to Ceberus. And THEY starved Chrysler. How much new product did you see from 2007 until 2009. None of this was the fault of Chrysler personel in Auburn Hills.

Are you going to blame the airlines for going broke in 2001? I mean everyone knew terrorist were going fly planes into buildings, right?

There is so much ignorance about "foreign" cars. Foreign car companies employ more than 100K people in the US and that's not counting small company suppliers that make parts for "foreign" cars. American car companies employ roughly 150K people. I work for a company that is based in France but so what they're supporting me and around 10K people here in North America which uses US small business owners to source their work. All this buy an American car crap is ignorance. Automobile manufacturing is a global market and each company (except for Korean made and VW) contribute a lot of jobs right here in the US.

I had a 2009 Harley a part broke on it and guess where that stock Harley part was mad?? Yea China....Wtf USA made? Wrong China made assembled in the US I had a 2002 Suzuki...that the parts were made in Ohio and assembled there too..

At one point GM alone employed almost a half a million people. GM laid off more people in the 80's than the foreign companies will ever employ here.

Swifster - I appreciate the response. I know there is always more to the story. I am interested in learning more about Lutz. I've always heard good things, but really don't know all that much about the guy. When I get some free time I'll do a little digging.

A solstice though, really!??

And they don't now not just because the foreign automobile market is taking a piece of the pie. Factories become more efficient, manufacturing processes are more efficient. A lot of people were replaced by automated machinery, tasks that used to take 5 people to do can now be done by 2. I'm in no way saying that I wouldn't buy American but there is a lot of ignorance when it comes to what is American made.

That Solstice (and the Saturn Sky) is really a slick little car. There are also a few out there with LS2's. Not from Pontiac, but they are out there. The name of the book is "Car Guys vs. Bean Counters: The Battle for the Soul of American Business". Definitely an excellent book.
