im gonna give the cliff note version here. i'd fill an entire page with the story. haha ( i have a buddy who works at a diesel shop in the area that mainly deals with power strokes and even he is having issues with this one.)
2006 F350 6.0 diesel.
Drove all over the other day. got to lansing and shut the truck off. came out 10 mins later, truck would not start. after 45 minutes of sitting we had a long cranka nd she fired up. no smoke, no misses.
while driving home, the truck started shaking and died. would not restart. we had it towed.
after checking things out and getting the truck restarted at home (ton of white smoke, fuel poring from the exhaust), we came to the conclusion number 8 injector was gone via the snap on scanner we had hooked up. we pulled it. The copper base gasket of the bottom of the injector was gone and one of the o rings was blown out.
after replacing the copper gasket and o rings, the truck would fire up and have no smoke and run just like it should, but as soon as it was warm, it would not restart until it was cold. I was advised that the rest of the orings mostlikly need to be changed as this will cause this issue.
We changed all copper gaskets and orings on the injectors.
got the truck started after this operation, no smoke, running on all 8, idling good for 20 minutes.
drove 1/4 mile with it and it was shifting weird and running funny then boom, shuts off, wont restart.
now its acting like its hydrolocked and we begun pulling glow plugs last night to get her unhydrolocked but only got 6 of the 8 out last night.
More work to come today.
any ideas?
FICM voltage is great 48.5, icp is working well and even tried to leave it unplugged but is .25 while idling, had the battery's and alt. tested last night and all passed, hooked up some makeshift grounds thinking its possible i have a faulty ground, still no good, we have great oil pressure (1025 while cranking), fuel is coming to the filter at the top of the engine. We also did an air leak down test of the high pressure side and heard zero leaks (shop air of 100 PSI only and with the engine cold), turbo spins free and has zero play. half tank of fuel with diesel 911 in it.
any help would be appreciated, its kicking my ass.
i agree its possible i have a cranked injector but why would it run great with no smoke at idle?
If any one knows their powerstrokes here and lives near the downriver area, i'll pay for your time to come help diagnose this thing tonight. Beer and booze in a warm shop will be provided. haha
