My buddy has a Durango with the 4.7 in it. The current set-up is a 3.55 gear in it.. He is looking to upgrade the gear to maybe a 3.90:1. he pulls a heavy camper and wants more torque.

The truck is a 4x4 so both front and back will have to be changed. What size rearend is in the truck?

What are his options?

Gear size is 8.25 or 9.25 for the rear... Front is 8.00

with R&R on the front probobaly more. I would figure conservatively going shop rates 800 ish for the rear and 1000 for the front. Depends on which front diff. I am a bit unsure as to which one it is so that makes it tough. If you want me to research a actual price let me know. The other probem could be getting those ratios.

Most likely cheaper to put on a shorter tire in all honesty.

Well how much roughly? He figured around 1k or so.

Rear gear in OEM, $210.00 add in new bearings and labor for $280.00, Front gear in OEM, EST- $325.00 and labor for $275.00.

The rear is a corporate 9.25 and the front is either a Dana 44 IFS or a corporate 8.25 IFS.

The 3.90 ratio was not available so we are going 4.10 front and rear tomorrow. Thanks for the reference OJ!

Customer just needs someone to reflash for the gear change, anyone know who can handle it???

UPDATE: As of 2006 and newer Durango and Aspen the front is a reverse cut gear set. A 3.55 and 3.92 ratio is only available for this front end and the rear axle is drivetrain sensitive. If the vehicle has a 4.7L the rear axle is a 8.25" and if the vehicle has a Hemi then it has a 9.25" rear axle.
