this is a 3v.. and i'm pretty sure the lightning timing parts wont be of help.
i'm pretty sure all of my 3v's have had alum valve covers?
i think i'd first take the valve covers off and front cover. see if anything is broken, then remove chains and re-time.
I took it to Tom Holzer and they said the motor has jumped timing. I talked with the tech and he said at a minumum I am looking at all new tensioners and timing components. He said just parts are around $1200 and labor would be at least that much. I found a new motor for the truck but he is saying the new motor has aluminum valve covers and if my truck has plastic covers its a different motor and will not work. Anyone have any additional insight into this? I just want a running truck as I totaled out my work truck on Monday and really need to get something running. I own 4 cars and none of them are in running shape! Yikes!
Take it apart and inspect it, If everythying looks Normal just retime the engine and put NEW Tensioners in.
But it Sounds like you have a Cam Phaser Issue. Cam Phaser issues Cause Low oil Pressure that Destroy the engine. Like I Said Earlier, you need a Motor... only Bad thing is, the motor you put in wont be any better.
Someone else on here had the smae issue with a 5.4 and Repalced the Motor with another Junk 5.4 and had the smae issues all over Again.
Its a Crapshoot.
So would I be better off with a new 5.4 or one with about 7000 miles on it. Are some of them good and some bad? I do not heard any tapping when the motor is running. The service tech said that it is likely the tensioners or the vcts are bad that is why it jumped timing. How hard is it to retime this motor?
