2006 5.4 stalling any insight?

Well I am down here in florida it is a very nice truck. 2006 crew cab lariat with a 6' bed loaded up 4wd 87,000 miles on it. He basically told me $10k minus the repairs. It sounds to me that it is eating the motor. It has very little power and a shake to it. I don't hear the rod knock but something is very wrong. I didn't get it to stall but my gut is saying at least a new shortblock. He had it at the dealer and it says sluge in motor engine declined. They wanted $5200 for a new motor. He says he changed the oil every 3-5k miles so I am not sure. Any advice what to check? I don't have much for tools down here or anything but I do have some.
 
I vaguely remember hearing something about faulty aftermarket oil filters deterioating and plugging the oil passages to the cylinder heads. The lower end holds oil pressure fine so you don't get a warning light but the heads are starving for oil. Not sure if that is what is going on here or not.

Light is flashing. I am going to have the truck shipped back home. Worst case its a new longblock.
 
I figured someone could make something of this invoice from the ford dealer.

A C/S Check engine light is on. engine stalls when idling, just had both cam sensors replaced, check and advise 79.99 diag

81173 tech 705. . 1.0 scope engine, Cam sensor codes, perform tests, customer declines engine at this time, engine sludged and metal in oil.

He got and oil change and diagnostic fee.
 
Have the codes read, sounds like it just has a bad coil or plug causing a misfire. Then drop the oil yourself and check it, or cut the bottom of the filter off (with it facing down to avoid adding new shavings)and look closely at the paper inside for evidence. Is there any noise from the engine? the cam covers are a bit of a bitch but if you can pull one-I would. You still in FLA?
 
I just got back last night. The truck will be here tommorow. There is a bit of a rattle at startup but nothing to horrible. I have an odb2 code reader but it wouldnt read the truck. Would a vetronix tech1 work? I have a few of those.

An OBD2 reader should work on that, it's OBD2. Plugs/coils are a bitch to do on them though.
 
Looks like everything on this truck is a bitch to work on. I will try the code reader again when I pick it up. My wife wasn't happy with me messing with the truck on her vacation so I didn't have alot of time. :). Plus security at the "resort" priceline found me doesnt allow you to work on cars in their parking lot.

Well I picked up a code reader this morning. The computer had 5 codes stored.
p0300 Multiple misfire
p0303 cyl. 3 misfire
p0307 cyl.7 misfire
p0345 camshaft position sensor a circuit bank 2
po 349 camshaft position sensor A circuit intermitant bank 2

I cleared these and got p0345 and p0349 back.

sounds like coils or someone put plugs in and didnt di electric grease up the coils good those 5.4 are known for missing if you dont lube the coils good let me known wat you mind
 
Still feels messed up. I am getting the 2 bank 2 sensor errors. So I ordered a new sensor. I replaced the bank 2 got the same codes. Then I swapped bank1 and bank2 and got the same code. So whats next? Any 5.4 gurus out there I can take this truck too?

I would pin out the wire harness on the down stream sensors... and verify wiring before you go buying more parts..
