Need a nice tow rig to pull your toy around?

I bought this recently as an insurance policy due to my company having their heads up their asses after I returned to work after my deployment. The point was to buy something that I knew would be able to do whatever I needed to do in the event the situation went south. I just happened to stumble across this the day it hit the lot.

The situation ended up getting resolved very quickly and while I'd love to keep it, it is simply an excess vehicle.

It is stupid clean inside and out. Must have been old man-owned and garaged all its life andd probably not the primary vehicle. It came out of PA and I'm guessing it was someone's camper puller. Had an indoor carpet-style bedliner when I got it, but the cap disappeared somewhere along the way in the dealer network. I needed something that would serve as a tool and I made the mistake of buying something too nice. What I really needed was something that I wouldn't be afraid to fuck up.

Truck also has a full Fass system and some DTT pieces on it (appears to have a trans program?). I had intended to get it down to a shop to spend some time poking around the trans to document what has been done, but haven't gotten around to it yet.

I already know I'm going to take a hit on this, but you're not going to find one of these in this condition with low miles and someone already dumped a decent amount of cash into some value-added aftermarket hardware early in the truck's life. This represents the last of the 2nd-gens with the stuff you couldn't previously get.

Couple things that may not be so obvious or perhaps unknown to those not familiar with 2nd-gen Rams since they made some changes in the last couple years of the platform:
  • No center axle disconnect (CAD) system. That's right - solid shafts with no vacuum shenanigans.
  • 4-wheel discs. No boat anchor rear drums.
  • Slip-on front discs. No more beating out and pressing in the studs to put the rotor on the hubs.
  • The "black" leather interior was not previously available. It was only tan or light gray for years.
  • Heated front seats.
  • This truck has a Sport paint job, but no decals or tailgate protector and it has chrome bumpers. This is not a re-paint or mixed parts. You could actually order that, as you will see in the build list.
  • In 98 and 99, Dodge did the right thing and changed the steering linkage to Inverted-T. Then they went back to Inverted-Y for some stupid reason. I will be putting the 2010-up Inverted-T conversion kit (which some may have read about on Cummins Forum, etc) on it shortly to correct this deficiency.
